Have been using my brother's Honda Jazz for a few weeks. Today I was using my Passat and went to the petrol station.

I dunno what I was doing I put unleaded petrol in the car. Drove the car for a bit and then I had to stop somewhere. When I tried to start it after that it wouldnt start.

I still hadnt realised what I had done. After a few minutes I realised what I had done!

What do I do now? Apart from shooting myself? And getting my brain examined?

sorry mate,i don't know, but i don't think he paid over the odds for it,think it was just a matter of getting fuel system drained, which i guess would be fairly straight forward, then he put a full tank of DIESEL in,so it meant that anything that may have been left was well diluted.

I still dont get that bit about these mistakes?
Putting a "Full" tank in to dilute what was left?
The pipes are only 8-10mm so how much fuel does it take to purge those lines ??
    1/2 Litre ? 1 litre max
so what the "full" tank means is beyond me appart from washing out the residue from tank, but a couple of litres and quick run down nearest windy road would sort that.
It was broken BEFORE i touched it honest!

how much diesel was in the tank and how much petrol did you put it.

ive done this in the past put petrol in a diesel and diesel in a petrol

i just filled the tank and off to go. this does depend through on how much was in the tank already of corse

There was very little diesel left. Maybe a litre, maybe less than that or a bit more not sure but it was down to the wire.

I put £10 worth of petrol. Thats just over 10 litres. Can I drain the petrol myself somehow? Or do i need to take it to a garage?

if it was me i,l i,d just fill the tank with diesel and see if it starts in not try it with a bump. some people put petrol in with there diesel during cold winter as it helps stop the diesel from freezing. so its not all as bad as you may think.

some people will say no to bump starting a car with a cat but ive always done this as and when needed with diffrent cars and never had any trouble.

under the rear seat there is a big plastic cap bolted down you can remove this and drain the tank that way. but watch how you remove it as it the petrol gauge sender unit.

you could take the tank off and drain it, it not a big a job as you mite think quite easy
