    Hello,
I have seen previous posts relating to Golf turbos, but my question is for a standard 1.6 petrol.

Randomly, the car losses power when accelerating from the low gears, and almost grinds to a halt. Only thing to do is take foot off the accelerator and then re-accelerate, at which point it will revv up and move forward.

Acceleration generally is patchy and not reliable, especially when starting from cold.

Diagnostics check shows nothing, I've replaced the oxygen sensor, and just had an oil / filter service. However, no improvement.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could give me some ideas, as I'm at my wits end at this stage. Could it be the air flow meter?

    Thanks

when you had it serviced did they change the auto box oil? i ask this cos a customer of ours at work had the same problem and after doing the normal checks i changed the box oil (something they wanted done anyway) and it ran like a dream, bit of a strange way to fill the box involes running the engine and waiting for it to run out of a drain hole, anyway worth checking if nothing else

    Phil,
    Thanks.
No, the auto box oil wasn't changed at the last service, because the car only has only 15,000 miles on the clock, so I thought it shouldn't be necessary.
Just an oil and filter change.
