Purchasing extras at dealer

I know this is probably not in the correct place as I am buying a polo not a golf, however a lot of knowledgable people read this so I am hoping to get some good advice.

I am due delivery of my new VW Polo on 1st Sept, and the dealer has offered me the following additional options which I am unsure if they are worth the money and I would be very grateful for your opinions.

The GAP insurance for approx 350 quid, the paint protection for about 199 quid, and the 3 year servicing deal for 250 quid.

I am certainly considering the gap insurance because as you can see I have ordered a lot of extras on my car.

gap insurance is one of those things that are either a waste of money (most people don't claim) - or worth it for the peace of mind - only you can decide.
I'd forget about the paint protection - buy decent polish & do it yourself for a tiny fraction of the price
the servicing deal is a no brainer unless your mileage is going to be very low

Service deal is the best value for money from that list, but as PhilDon says only if you're doing around average mileage or above.

The other two - smoke & mirrors in my opinion; buy some good polish (I use Autoglym) and forget about the insurance, unless you feel its absolutely essential for your own piece of mind.

Hi,

I took delivery of a Polo in April and I had the service pack. I was also given £100 towards accessories as the car was late (that was on top of the discount and them honouring the PX price despite the car being 2 months late), so I had the premium Polo mats and the premium kick plates.

Forget GAP insurance. As far as the paint protection goes, spend the money on some good car cleaning materials and do it yourself for a fraction of the cost.

You can get GAP insurance online for around a third of that price. I got it for my GTD for £125 from ala.co.uk with £150000 cover.

useful info - at that sort of price I'd say it was worth thinking about

create an accoutn with www.quidco.com and you can buy gap insurance via them with ala and others for around £110 after your discount/cashback.

GAP and Paint protection are massive money makers for the dealers - you can buy diamondbrite/Autoglym lifeshine products on ebay for under a tenenr, and apply them yourself ina few hours, giving you amply chance to inspect your new car up close.

I am currently thinking of getting the servicing deal, forgetting the paint protection and doing it myself (like someone said it will give me a good chance to have a thorough look over my car), and I think I will go for the gap for peace of mind but forget buying from the dealer and go for an aftermarked company for about 1/3 of the price.

This will save me a huge amount of money so thanks again for your help!
