3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
Hi
hope someone can help.
It all started last week where I was getting a pulsing from the engine, I knew it would be the gears on the throttle valve so i ordered a replacement set.
Unfortunately the car decided otherwise and lost power on the M6, it didnt stall just lost all power.
I stopped the engine and tried restarting, it fired but was only running at 400rpm, and no response from the throttle.
Had it towed back and waited for replacement gears to arrive. I wipped off the throttle valve and as expected the gears were totalled chewed.
New gears fitted and a clean whilst I had it apart, good movement from the gear operating the butterfly. Popped it back on and wonts start. Checked with my vcds and got this
004203 - Throttle Valve
P106B - 002 - Stuck or difficult to move - Intermittent
I did scan it before initially took it off and had the same error.
I unbolted the throttle valve and left it connected to the loom so I could see the butterfly doing its initialisation.
It only opened about 25% and buzzed.
Checked gears etc and no change.
Bought a new throttle body and fitted it today, initialisation was correct on first key turn , fully closed and then open.
bugger still wont start, cleared all the dtc's and rescanned but it not even attempting to start, got a battery booster connected to ensure its got full power.
My normal mechanic (my cousin, cant get me in until mid next week) and ive been without a car all week. Its parked 15mins away in my caravan storage yard.
Anyone got any tips ?
thanks
Simon
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
what codes did you get when you re-scanned? is there an output test for it in vcds?
not even attempting? cant just see from here lol do you mean no response from key - engine wont crank, or cranks at low RPM......?
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
cant see any output test for it at all and I think the calibrations Ive seen are all for petrol versions
engine cranks fine, just wont start
not always but sometimes the same code comes back as in first thread
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
did you check ross tech website it could give some direction. Are all the electrical connections in good order, a bad one could mean its not getting enough juice to fully function.
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
the initial movement of the butterfly valve looks correct, ie as soon as you turn the ignition on it does a full close and back to open
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
Ive found this
Ill have a walk done an d try it
Special Notes
- When found on 3.0l CR-TDI (i.e. BKS/BUG) or 4.2l CR-TDI (BVN), the Learning Values have to be cleared after replacing the Throttle Body Control Module.
- DO NOT CLEAR LEARNED VALUES IF YOU HAVE NOT REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL MODULE! Otherwise the proper values are being cleared and incorrect values are being learned.
[Select]
[01 - Engine] (for Bank 1/J388) or [11 - Engine 2] (for Bank 2/J544)
[Coding-II - 11]
- Enable the Learning Procedure by Entering 10021.
[Do It!]
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
- Switch the Ignition OFF.
- Switch the Ignition ON for 1 Second, then turn it OFF immediately.
- Wait at least 30 Seconds, then switch the Ignition ON again.
- Now Check if all remaining fault codes can be cleared.
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
well ive tried that and no joy
scan only shows issues with glow plugs which ive had for ages
found a throttle body test and that seems to work fine
Im baffled !!!!!!!
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
If it was an immobiliser issue would that log up in vcds?
or fuel supply problem?
Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
I replaced mine with a new replacement unit i had no issues it just worked, i did not replace gears i swapped the throttle body.

Re: 3.0 tdi throttle valve issue
Yes I bought a brand new throttle body this morning and have that fitted now
gave up on the old one, I think there was a problem with it beyond the stripped gears
