Re: Climate control reset??
Do you have a registered copy of VAG-COM?
Re: Climate control reset??
No but a colleague does. He's happy to help me.
Re: Climate control reset??
Go into "08 auto HVAC", then "basic settings" and then "group 001", click "go" and you will hear the motors moving about. There is also an output self test. Before you start, check for fault codes and then print off any that are there before clearing them, if the same codes return, the relevant flap motors will need replacing.
Re: Climate control reset??
Many thanks. I'll give it a try and keep fingers crossed!
Re: Climate control reset??
Sorry for posting this on your thread but as its air con related I thought why not,the question is once you have set the temp to LO and put the fans on is that the air con on? Having only owned the car for 3 months this is the first weather where I can try it out lol.

If you turn Econ Off. Regardfs Peter

Thanks Peter again :beerchug:
Re: Climate control reset??
you don't need to set temp to 'LO'
just press the auto, so as Peter says you loose the ECON light.
set the temp to what you would like the cabin at, say 20 degrees.
Air con will come on till cabin temp reaches 20 degrees, and then switch off.
Fan speed will vary dependant on how far from desired temperature you are.
You have full climate control, so it is automatic. Cheaper to run than straight Aircon, and much more civilised
Re: Climate control reset??
Anyway - back to my original problem...!
Tried a couple of things - disconnected battery to reset ECU. No improvement. Got specialist to take a look yesterday and for some reason the climate control module wouldn't allow interrogation?? Also had to have a regas as the level was low (despite regas 2 months ago...) - prob leaking somewhere or didn't get the full regas last time.
Seems to be much better but of course weather is cooler - we'll see.
Anyway - I'm aware I can replace the CC module but have been told the part number ie last two letters must match exactly? Anyone know if this is true? Or can I just get one off ebay for a C5 A6?
Re: Climate control reset??
Contact www.BBA-Reman and see if they test/repair these. Regards Peter
Re: Climate control reset??
Many thanks Peter - very useful!
Re: Climate control reset??
Update - tried the VAG.COM reset procedure and all seems to be working normally. Nice chilled air from all vents.
However - I think now I have a problem with the auxiliary condenser fan not activating i.e. at standstill or in heavy traffic the cooling is poor and on one occasion knocked out the compressor completely. I assume there must be a thermostatically controlled switch that's failed and hence the fan isn't cooling the condenser when required??
Anyone know of this problem and/or where the switch is located?

Why do you think you can use aircon in hot weather only?
Aircon is what it says and can be used at any temperature,it is the ideal way to demist your car in the winter months and,FWIW aircon should be run for at least 15mins.every month to help keep the seals lubricated.
Regards.

I don't - it's just that hot weather more clearly reveals a problem with cooling.
Given the climate control will reduce cooling effect proportionate to reducing outside air temp, the colder it gets the harder it is to test the system's working properly.
So a good hot day tends to reveal problems like no other!
Re: Climate control reset??
Hi
I've got the same problem. Did you manage to sort it out?

Had this on my old Passat and solved it. Look at this thread for all the information I gleaned, the A6 is the same if it is a 1.9.
https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=43055
That thread describes how I checked and eliminated the fuses and relays and then pinpointed the resistor pack.
However have you tried helping the fan start on its way?
Re: Climate control reset??
Very interesting - thank you. I was told a new fan and control module would be £180 plus VAT so a resistor pack seems more attractive! Hadn't even considered it. I've also got no idea where it's located - presumably not to far away from the fan motor? Perhaps mounted on the rad itself?
I've not tried giving it a spin as I hadn't realised there was low speed operation on start up. Worth a try.
Re: Climate control reset??
Climate control cars have a transistorised fan controller, cars with a four speed blower switch have a resistor pack, both are located in the air box downstream of the fan so as to keep them cool.

Not so sure there.
Both my B5.5 Passat and C5 A6 had climate control, both had the same resitor pack.
Both cars were 1.9 (AWX) TDI's.
The resistor pack is located on the underside of the passenger front chassis leg and requires the front end to be in the 'lock position to remove.
Re: Climate control reset??
I do apologise, I was thinking interior blower fan, I was a bit tired last night,
Re: Climate control reset??
One of these monkies....
New one

Old knackered one which had suffered water ingress.

Look in the tread though. I very nearly replaced it with some heavy duty resistors which would have been a much cheaper fix but in the end couldn't be bothered.
