Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Hi,
My 2009 1.9TDI has intermittent power loss problems, feels like limp mode but it only lasts 1-2 seconds and goes, always under initial acceleration at low revs, coil light on dash starts flashing, but then drive normally for rest pf journey. The problem can be gone for a few weeks at a time then return. It recently had the vacuum pump replaced as this was leaking oil everywhere. It hasn't had the fault since for three weeks until today where its started again. I have scanned it and it always throws up the following faults:
16610/P0226 - Throttle Pedal Position Sensor (G79): Implausible Signal
P161A/005658 - Glowplug for Cylinder 1 (Q10): Open Circuit
P161B/005659 - Glowplug for Cylinder 2 (Q11): Open Circuit
P161C/005660 - Glowplug for Cylinder 3 (Q12): Open Circuit
P161D/005661 - Glowplug for Cylinder 4 (Q13): Open Circuit
Garage wants to change all the glow plugs but my thoughts (with limited car knowledge) is its something to so with the throttle position sensor and thats causing the plugs to throw up the fault??
Any advice much appreciated.
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
It needs glow plugs anyway, fix the other issue and the light will still come back on. The throttle pedal acting up is very common at this time of year as the sender is under the pedal and gets wet, daft design.
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Thanks crasher, what symptoms would bad glow plugs cause, is that what is causing the loss of power rather than the sender?
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
The glow plugs could cause starting problems and will raise the tailpipe emissions as they are used as part of the combustion process, the pedal will cause limp mode.
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
It does stink a bit like, ill do em at weekend 👍👍 thanks
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Even though coil light (squiggly line) goes off and its fine for two weeks, would the light not be on all the time? ill change them i just like to learn why so i can help someone else in future 🤘🤘
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Also rear left brake light fails all the time and the glow plug light flashes not static
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Check the earth pin on the bulb holder and plug for burning.
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Can you yourself post up your engine code as there is 5 off 1.9 codes for these

Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Just checked the pins on the d plug in the bulb holder. Not sure which pin the earth is but there are about 7 pins and all clean and ok. i thought id mention as i read somewhere that the TPS problems can be linked somehow . currently the bulb failed light is on for the rear brake light, but the actual bulb is working ?!?!?!

Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Cleared the faults and they haven't returned. It has been losing power still but not enough to trigger engine light it seems 🤔 yes earth terminal is fine. Safe to say glowplugs are ok and other fault nay be causing them to flag?
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
If it's any help, I occasionally get the flashing glowplug light with 'visit workshop' message when braking. Soon after that the left brake light bulb will usually fail.
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Yes this is what i get, no power problems for you though??
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Actually not under braking. It says the left bulb has failed and it hasn't.
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
When it happens on mine, a touch of the brakes brings the fault up, but the warning with the flashing light will stay for 10-15 minutes then go out and back to normal. The bulb may not have failed, but changing it anyway usually sorts it.
As a curiosity, do you have a towbar fitted?
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Yes it does have a towbar. The car starts up and runs fine so possible that the glow plug fault and throttle fault are completely separate issues? Have you scanned yours to see if it throws and faults?
Re: Touran 1.9TDI Throttle Sensor/Glow Plug Fault
Changed the pedal with a one from a caddy, no problems since
