MYAudi App wants me to "Become Main User". So do I.
Hi...hoping someone can put my out of my misery...
I have a Feb 2016 Q7 and the Audi Connect stuff generally works ok. I mean I can connect, see where I've parked, even twitter in the car works (used it once!). So, there's a connection between the Myaudi account and app and the car. But...
I cannot see if my doors are locked, fuel level, mileage etc. There's nothing in the app to suggest it can do that...except for annoying message on the front page of the myAudi app, it reads ...
Audi Q7
Become main user
To experience the full range of my Audi, save your Audi partner in the myAudi app and allow yourself to be defined as the main user by this partner on-site.
But, my local dealer can't shed any light.I also seem to be missing a feature on the MMI, something which is shown in my user manual page 233, with the text "Applies to: vehicles with Audi connect vehicle control services". The manual refers to Menu>Audi Connect>Display available functions (if necessary) > right control button Audi connect user administration > Key user > Set key user.
My MMI doesn't show any of these options.
I emailed Audi over the coarse of 2 weeks (for two replies); they told me that these features weren't available on 2016 models. End of.
Perhaps they're right, but I'd love a second opinion...seems odd it would be covered in my 2016 manual if the features weren't available then. (Time travel perhaps?)
I'd love to hear if anyone with an MY16 Q7 can see if their doors are locked in the Myaudi app.
Thanks!

I can’t and my car was built early 2016 and collected April 2016.
I think it came with My17 when the cars came with embedded SIMs
Re: MYAudi App wants me to "Become Main User". So do I.
I also can't in my Q7 model 2016. I also have got the reply from Audi that these features are not available in 2016 models.
Re: MYAudi App wants me to "Become Main User". So do I.
Ditto mine doesn’t have that, December 2015

Ahh, well at least I can stop chasing shadows!
So, do all MY16’s also have the “Become main user” message in the myAudi app? It’s not serious...but it niggles at me!
Many thanks for the replies.

I don’t see that message all I get is “no connection possible” in settings page.

Yes, I get that if I'm not connected to the car's WiFi. But this is in the in the "MMI Connect" app. I'm referring to the "myAudi" app. Not sure why there's two... that's another one for debate!

Odd I don’t see that in myAudi app, I just set it up to check. Not very useful though given it can’t get data from the car remotely other than via the phone interface. The most useful thing I use is sending addresses to the car via the MMI app and Google Maps sharing, then the car picks it up via the SIM I put in (no embedded of course).

I'm getting that 'main User' thing in myaudi for my A7 too. No idea. Generally this whole Audi Connect is really turning into a bit of a lemon. We've lost street view, send to phone from google - next it will be google earth that goes. Reading the reviews of Myaudi and MMI Connect on Google Playstore make interesting, if very sad, reading. They score 2.4 and 2.7 respectively. Audi would have done better to stick a Raspberry Pi behind the dash as a £50 option.

Did you both have the cars from new or used? I was just thinking that if they were used then they may have previously been part of a fleet or something like that where the user access was set up as main and subsidiary accounts??? Just guessing given there seems to be that sort of functionality in it.

I take it you have tried the 10 digit unique key (needs to be scratched off like lotto card) that comes with the key fob, I think I remember putting this on our MY17 version received the car in July 2016 with connect SIM to become Main User.
(this separate from VIN to create the myaudi account) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fb2326a8e9.jpg

Re: MYAudi App wants me to "Become Main User". So do I.
I do have a key fob with the scratch stuff still covering the number, as there's no place in the MMI to enter it. My car was registered Feb 2016 and I have to put in my own sim card. I think it's ust too old... :-(

The code is put in the my audi site to become a main user AFAIK and remember, might need to reset the vehicle and restart the process at worst might need re-register
With regards to too old? Not sure I understand, if you got a SIM module in the glove that you use doesn't that make it a MY17 Q7?
The 3 years free audi connect should still be active if its 2016 shouldn't it?
I think the audi dealers contact audi connect to extend after it expires at no charge normally from what I've heard, could be wrong though
Think the only code ever used in cars itself is the 8 digit myaudi pin's
Hopefully this helps and works ai..

For this again AFAIK, if the phone is connected to car WiFi with an active Internet connection somewhere all three will be linked..
If the car wifi is disabled and the car connected to the phone via Bluetooth with the an active Internet connection then the last 1 is still red, it seems to want the WiFi to be on for an active connection to the car, but not sure if this relates to car being MY17 an not being able to use the phones Internet via Bluetooth.

Thanks satyp, this is getting interesting! I didn't need the scratch of number to set up my audi account though, think I used the VIN number? I do have to insert my sim card into the box in the glove box, not sure if that makes it MY16 or MY17 though. But Audi did say it's too old to get any status messages from the car (i.e. doors, fuel level etc). Audi Connect does work though and Audi have extended the licence period FOC. And I do have an 8 digit pin, which I have to enter into the car's MMI every now and then.
I bought the car used from a private dealer last year, this might not be helping matters.
I'll search the audi site for key fob pin stuff and see what turns up. I've ignored this pin until now because I thought this only applied to cars outside UK...don't know where I read that. Thanks again!

As far as I'm aware the keyfob number you scratch off like the picture above only applies to the cars with the embedded sim and remote capabilities which is not available in those cars from 2016 and earlier... basically, if you dont get prompted to enter that code in the MMI, its a pointless bit of plastic.

Hmm, good point, I got mine used from a private dealer. The keyfob was never scratched off.
But I think I’m going to give up on this now. It’s just a niggle, I think MY16’s really don’t have this function, and what Audi told me was actually correct! Everything else about the car is still perfect, so I’m not complaining too much!

Hi Andy
Fair do's ;-)
Ordered Q7 appx 2016, received it June 2016 went in at the cut off as MY17.. go figure, might have been as one of the the first few MY17's I guess...
The whole thing about this is Audi literature as well... as all the tech sales etc never clear, hence all of us and the the forums and stuff... Fun sometimes with all the guess work, figuring it out etc.. Chore other times figuring it all out..
Especially being able to use bluetooth WiFi data sharing hot-spotting in the old MMI versions via the car Wi-Fi and inability to do so with these MY17 Ones without having a cubic plan or extra dedicated UK SIM in glove box SIM module I think is quite ridiculous considering a lot of folk may already have unlimited data plans with hotspot capability via their network providers. (did drive me up the wall initially)
I don't understand the business requirement and insistence of that even though the built in e-sim relies on non heavy lifting of the Audi Connect services, why not let the consumer decide weather or not use their own data via Bluetooth for in car Wi-Fi,
But hey ho... It is what it is, not sure how BMW etc are all implementing it, may find out due course or in years to come I guess :-0
