Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Intestesting
as once apon a time they said it couldn't be done
was looking over the internet as you do and stumbled across a genuine Audi smartphone interface retrofit
and the funny thing is this kit is being sold by a genuine Audi dealership
this will suit the Audi Q7 4M MY16
its not cheap at £270 plus you have to fit it and it don't say how much work is involved
but glad to see as far as I can see it can be done

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Good find Max, which dealers is selling this?
-
Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Max is right. This is possible. I have the kit and will be trying this myself but I think it needs an online dealer connection to do it

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
What kit does this actually include, the ebay description talks about activation document, is that all? I presume there is some additional hardware needed too?
edit: And I note this can also be found on audi website
Code:
https://shops.audi.com/en_GB/web/zubehoer/p/retrofit-solution-for-the-audi-smartphone-interface-4m0051472-9

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
It's just a booklet. In the back are 3 codes which a dealer will input into their system to talk back to audi hq. It will then send down the license files to the car and activate ASI.
There is no additional hardware needed. It'd literally a 10 page booklet. 1 page of instructions, 9 pages for 9 languages and last page is the 3 codes. No sd cards, no hardware.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Thanks for clarifying Andy. If it's just a licensing thing I don't understand why Q7 need to be from production date week 34/2015 :(

Agreed. I don't know either. I think if you got update to 0976 done on your mmi (are you in 0358?) then you shoukd be good. My build is close to that week but im going to try it anyway... Lol

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
I am on 0358, my car was registered 04/09/2015, so I am assuming build week was a fair way before week 34
-
Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Same boat as me. I was on 0358 now on 0976. Let's see how it goes :)

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Will be interested to see how you get on. I contacted the ebay seller (Huntingdon Audi) and they have checked my VIN and confirmed not suitable as my cars build date was 27/6/15.
My concern is, even if it is possible for you Andy, that if Audi's computer says no, then for the rest of us, this still wont be an option :(
-
Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Correct. If computer says no then we are up the creek and back to the drawing board.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Hey Andy,
Did you get the smartphone interface installed on 0976? My build date is also pre 17.8.2015, and I'm on 0358. I've been trying to get my dealer to update me to a later version now as my warranty is running out soon (been feeding them diffuse MMI-related error reports in hope they would pick it up as a firmware error, as I know they won't update firmware just because I ask for it (tried that for my earlier car)), and as I have an appointment for a transmission adaption reset in a few weeks I could try to get them to do this too, if it's possible on a later firmware.
I suspect, though, that it's got something to do with hardware too, since otherwise the retrofit module would just have a prerequisite for a certain firmware level instead of a build date. Like the map updates on my 2012 A6, where certain map versions could only be used after upgrading firmware to a certain level. The dealer wanted to charge me for like 6 hours of work, besides the cost of the maps, because of all the firmware updating needed to be done; ended up doing it myself, and it really took a few hours (but most of that time spent waiting). Unfortunately, I can't find Q7 firmware anywhere on the web like I could with the A6, otherwise I'd do that myself too.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
I am thinking about using the iPhone alert bug as an excuse for the software upgrade.
It seems you need the newer software to get the alert about leaving your iPhone in the car. Could try that line to see if they accept it!

Agreed but is it wrong I just can't be bothered to book it in? It's quite nice having the car [emoji4]

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Asi enabled on my car! Car went in for service and they took the booklet I had bought already and applied it. Involves hooking up to audi hq at the dealership. Charged me 1 hour labour to do.
Job done!

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Andy, did you ever learn if an upgrade to 0976 enables this? I've got my car booked in soon for a s/w upgrade to the front cameras and I've asked them to do 0976 at the same time.

Hey
Sorry no, updating your MMI to 0976 does not enable ASI. You have to get the ASI Booklet ordered from your dealer which they will then use to enable ASI separately. Its about £250

Hi andyhud007. Did you get the labour quote before you went to the dealers, as I've just been quoted £496.30 all in to get the ASI activated on my A7 (£264 ASI/£232.30 labour)? That includes 1.5 hours labour, which seems excessive to me. Any idea how long it actually took? Apparently the 1.5 hours is a standard time to get this done - on my A7 anyway. But that labour cost, wow.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Mine was £95 for 1 hour. Yours seem high. Booklet price (£264 sounds right though)
In reality it takes no more than about 30 mins on a computer hooked upto the car.

Andy, thanks for that. I'm going to challenge that labour price - or go to another dealer.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
I just got mine done on an approved used Q7 I bought. It's Dec 2015 build an the dealer thought it had CarPlay on when I test drive it but we never tried it. He released mistake after I'd agreed to buy it and told me up front before delivery. So we ended up spitting the part cost (which is just a box with licence keys in it) and they covered the labour. He said techs were surprised it could be done but it worked no issues.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Hi all, My 67 plate Q7 has the Audi Smartphone Interface but do we know if this upgrade can be performed on the A3 etron 16 plate. It has the MMI high installed and can display google earth for the maps.
Just would be really useful to have it.

Here the product I got, seems to only refer to certain A6/A7/Q7 but maybe if you search there are other packs?

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Just ring your dealer and quote your vin for your A3. They can easily check if it's possible.
Cheers.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
I'm still trying to find any info on enabling smart phone interface no a MY16 (65) Q7 4M with a build date a couple of weeks before the 'official' retrofit upgrade supports.
I see Hazzydayz say they can enable this, but it's starting to look expensive with their additional 175+VAT charge, is it really worth £660, I was hoping for something a little cheaper
Audi Smart Phone Interface Apple Carplay for MIB II A6 4G A7 4G Q7 4M Q2 & R8 4S - Supply & Fit
Is there really additional hardware required for pre 17/08/2015 cars?

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
Whats your current firmware level of your MMI unit mate? (Settings / System Maintenance I think).
Let me look into this. Do you have ODBEleven?
Remember you can now listen to Amazon Music (if you have Amazon Prime / Amazon Music Unlimited subscription) natively in the MMI with the MMI Connect app now. That is over wifi too to the car's hotspot and I'm using that more than Android Auto now.

Re: Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface
My car is still on 0358, no ODBEleven. I have VCDS (but not hex-net :( ) Would consider purchasing VCP, if this was something that is possible, but finding decent info on VCP is hard with their private forums.
