A7 3.0 TDi 218PS fuel consumption
Hi guys,
Got my new A7 3.0 TDi 218PS for 2 weeks, love the car:-) However I am bit disappointed at fuel efficiency. The official figure is 52mpg combined for this particular engine. I am getting about 40mpg on my daily route, which is about 70% motorway and 30% town street. This is the same as my old A5 2.0TFSI, whose official figure is 40mpg combined.
I was expecting much better fuel efficiency than my old A5 as the official figure improved quite a lot, but I am getting more or less the same. What's you guys fuel consumption? Is it far from official numbers?
Re: A7 3.0 TDi 218PS fuel consumption
If the car is brand new, it should improve slightly once you have covered a few miles. Mine settled down after about 5000 miles and probably improved by 10%
Re: A7 3.0 TDi 218PS fuel consumption
On similar runs to yourself I get about 46mpg and mine is the old model bitdi. It was never this good at the start and will get better after about 4-5000 miles

I want to know how you got 40mpg on the A5 2.0tfsi?!

The car has done 6k miles already, so i guess the consumption should be stable now.

As I said route is 70% highway, quite easy to get 40 mpg.

Interesting. My commute is 90% motorway and I usually only saw 35mpg when sticking to the cruise control. Mine was 09, before they introduced stop start. Could that explain it?

Mine is 12 reg without start stop, fairly easy to get 40 plus mpg on highway.

Ah OK. Think the efficiency of the 2.0TFSI was much improved on the facelift models.
I guess my commute was only 20 odd miles. Might of got 38 if there was a 50 average camera but it was decent enough for me anyway.
Moving to an S5 now so no point in thinking about fuel economy anymore....

I have the 218 and have hit 9000 miles. Day to day it averages mid 40s, but on a run with the Efficiency profile selected and using the fuel consumption thermometer, I can get this to the mid 50s. Not as advertised, but we all know now how unrealistic those tests are. But not bad for a large 4 door 3 litre GT that can nudge 150mph.

that's much better compare to mine, I have never see more than 45 mpg even on highway use efficiency mode. I know official numbers are unrealistic but this is too far off.
I wander what's your tyre size?

This is better than mine and it's the old model Bi Tdi engine, maybe I should let the dealer take a look.
Re: A7 3.0 TDi 218PS fuel consumption
I've got the 204ps version, 63 plate, my is probably 80% motorwat, 20% road. On the m/way I'm generally edging mid 40's. By the time I've crawled the last 5/6 miles at an average speed of circa 12mph, I'm getting just shy of 40mpg as a whole. I'm okay with that tbh. On longer motorway runs with little traffic I'm getting just over 50-mpg which, again, im generally happy with. When I looked back at the official consumption for my car at the time vs now, it's generally 5mpg off to the worse.
Horses for courses I guess.

Typical. Newer cars do not drink less... They cheat the official combined test especially audi. Here is my own experience:
Bmw 530d mpg official 44mpg. Mpg run motoway daily comute:47mpg
Volvo 1.6 v60. Official mpg: 64
Real life: 45 exaclty same 190 miles roundtrio commute
What is very annoying is that so maky like me got conned by manufactuerer and governement incentive to reduce roadtax
