A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some questions I have on retrofitting Bose to an A4 Cabriolet ?
1. Do I need to change over the wiring looms, or just rewire new plugs/connectors?
2. I have wired in the 2 rear speakers, but cannot figure out the front dash speakers as they have 4 wires either side, and the BOSE speakers only need 2 ?
3. Also the centre dash speaker has different coloured wires, which way round do they go?
4. Do I need to run a new loom from the head unit to the BOSE amp in the boot ?
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me out, as I have most the bits, and a week off work to get the job done.
A wiring diagram or pictures would be a great help.
Thanks in advance.
Ben

Hmm, Did this upgrade a few years back.
Wiring diagrams attached. note how it works de[ends on the Bose amp you got so make sure to look up the connections as there are several different versions.
You need the microphone as well depending on the amp model.
I ran new BNC leads from the front to the rear (though I changed the radio as well from the 2 din Symphony)
Hope this helps,
W.
Attachment 1 is from Etka
Attachment 2 is what I used at the time for the amp I got (2009)
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Good evening W,
Thank you for the reply, much appreciated :-)
Did you make a new loom or use the existing one that I assume runs from the HU to the Amp?
Can you remember the part number of the Bose amp you used?
Also, the wires on the standard setup appear to be a lot thinner than on the Bose wires. Do they need replacing?
Sorry for all the questions, but if the weather permits, I would like to crack on with this tomorrow now that you have pointed me in the right direction.

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
As said, I laid 2 Cables the length of the car (along door an through the ski hole as far as I can remember) which had BNC connectors on each end. The amp I got (amp and speakers were part of a used set) had no plug so I got a new one from Audi and created my own loom which terminated in BNC sockets for the input (output I used the cabling that is already going to the speakers as to change this would be a real pain (especially to the door speakers) and tbh, I can't see it making much difference.
Can't remember the part number of the amp but it was off a 2005 or 2006 model. I need to lay a new earth back to the radio to remove ground loop noise at the weekend so I can check if you want me to.
Attached are a few more items from my archive (I did a ton of modding back 2008 - 2011 essentially adding on EVERY audi extra from parking sensors to highline to auxiliary winter heater :) )
If you need a new plug to the amp, send me a picture and I will look up the part number for you.

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Awesome, thank you so much for your time.
I have a 2003 B6 cabriolet that I have face lifted.
Loads of stuff I want to do:
Heated Seats
RNSE or Aftermarket ?!?!?!
Bluetooth
Reversing Camera / Parking Sensors
Auto Dimming Mirror
Smartop
And the list goes on.
So treat me as a complete novice, but i assume that it is just 3 extra cables between the Bose amp & the HU? 2 for powering the front speakers? and 1 for the earth?
Can you remember what cable did you used ?
Thanks again, and sorry to be a pain ... I'm still learning!!!!
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
My BOSE amp socket/plug is the same as the NONBOSE amp in your second attachment ???
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Hi,
Did you change the bumper, lights and bonnet to make it look like a B7?
Having done all the stuff on your list, here is my view:
Heated Seats - difficult as lots of wiring and getting the seat covers off is a real pain in the ..... Make sure you purchase Elsawin (repair manual) on ebay/download - will prove indispensable.
RNSE or Aftermarket ?!?!?! - Went aftermarket - originally Kenwood, now Chinese Android unit (it is great)
Bluetooth - part of the radio
Reversing Camera / Parking Sensors - look up alibaba - you can get a camera that replaces the number plate light - really cool. Need new bumper for front parking sensors (if you want to go Audi) - A guy damaged my bumper so got new one with the correct fittings.
Auto Dimming Mirror - easy enough to install - get them quite cheaply from US (Ebay) - even include a compass!! - never managed to find one in Europe. adding on the auto dimming wingmirrors was fairly tough and the glass itself is expensive.
Smartop - easy mod and should be nummero uno!!!
if you do a search on this forum you will find a full list of all my mods.

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
So many more questions now!!!!
Where did you get your copy of elsawin?
Where did you get your android unit?
Where did you buy your smartop?
Anyway, back to the main issue, I have taken my car apart, and cut wires!!!!
Please help me wire it back up, got to do it tomorrow really?!?!?!

New Bose Amp : 8H0 035 223 B
Original Non-Bose Amp : 8H0 035 223
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Yep that is the Cabriolet model so would follow the Elsawin printouts I posted earlier.
I think mine is from a Saloon, can't remember (though could be a later one!).
Anyway, back to your questions:
Where did you get your copy of elsawin? Ebay
Where did you get your android unit? AliExpress - Aliexpress.com : Buy Pure Android 4.2.2 Car DVD Player For Audi A4 2002 2008 Dual Core A9 2 Din 7" Canbus DVB T Box GPS Navi Wifi RDS Music SWC 3G from Reliable dvd recorders and players suppliers on Shenzhen Digital Kingdom Technology Co., Ltd | Alibaba Group note there are comprimises - look up XDA.com and put in Heuifei - sound quality takes a hit compared to other units.
Where did you buy your smartop? www.mods4cars.com - came from Germany :) nice guys, very helpful.
Also, I bought a full "wiring loom" on ebay - try and get one from a B6 (I got by accident B8) - will save you a fortune if you plan to do lots of mods as you get all the connectors, wires etc. you can get cable ends (note connectors come from audi) wurth (wuerth) but the vw kit is very expensive!

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Good evening,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Got most of the Bose wired up now, just gotta connect the front speakers.
Do you now what I need to do with the Bose input on the back of the stereo?
Also, I can't seem to program the radio into Bose mode ?!?
Next time i'm up the scrapyard I will get one, good idea.
Cheers
Ben
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Oh and I bought this yesterday after you said about Android HU : Dynavin DVN-A4 (D99) Android | eBay
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
not sure what "bose mode" is - I thought (though could be wrong) that Bose takes the output of the radio, plus the input from a mic which goes into the light panel and adjusts the sound based on ambient sound.
Which radio do you have - 1 din or 2 din?

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Great price. you can get canbus etc for it if you have steering controls (I added these to mine).

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
I know, bargain :-)
Dodgy CD drive, but hardly listen to CD's and prob take it apart to see if I can fix it.
I really want to add a multi function steering wheel, but B6 have 1 airbag where as the B7 had 2 or something like that.
Thank you for all your help, greatly appreciated.
Where abouts are you?
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Hey,
Not sure if you are finished but was doing some work on mine today and remembered that the front speakers on the "non Bose" were powered directly from the radio. as a result I had to run a cable from behind the radio to the bose amp otherwise no front speakers!!!
my Amp is the same as yours only the C version. Don't think it makes much difference though.
Did you get the speaker covers - as far as I remember the bose ones only cost about £5 each and complete the look.
Finally, if you want multi function steering wheel, Audi did do it for the B6. I ended up putting in a heated one from an A6 but it works fine. you may need to change the unit behind the wheel (as far as I remember) and get the correct cable to link up the switches. Note you only really get track/station + and - as well as volume + and - (mine has two other switches, tel and telematics I think but I was never able to get any of the aftermarket units to recognize them).

Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Good evening W,
Hope your well?
Sorry for taking ages to get back to you, I started a new job a few weeks ago.
All the wiring for the BOSE amp is sorted, and I have connected up the Dynavin D99.
All appears to be working ok sound wise, but there are a couple of issues:
1. The radio reception is awful ... I believe I need to connect the aerial antenna to a powered adapter, to power the aerial antenna. Just not sure which is the aerial, the aerial connector or the fakra?
2. I have feedback/interference through the speakers.
3. How do I get the MFD on the dash to work with the stereo?
I definitely want to add a multifunction steering wheel, and heated seats at some point.
Cheers
Ben
Re: A4 B6 Cabriolet BOSE Retrofit - Help Needed
Hi,
1) you need an autoleads PC5-52 adapter. Halfords or Ebay (cheaper) Halfords Ireland | Autoleads Audi Aerial Adaptor PC5-52
2) Ground loop isolator will solve your problem (Maplin): http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/ground-loop-isolator-vw43w# note I tried grounding the amp to the same point as the radio but it made no difference. Supposedly an isolate does remove some base but I noticed little difference.
3) with a B6 you can't - from what I have found, you can only get it to work with either VWs or possibly the B7 (though not sure on the latter).
Hope this helps,
W.
