No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
Hi,
firstly I hope this is in the right place.
just bought an 03 A4 tdi Avant which is great, first audi I have owned and I love it.
I seem to be having a problem with the rear wash wipe not working and also the boot unlock, remote or boot release don't work. Even turning the key in the boot does nothing.
I have checked the fuses in the drivers side panel but all seem ok.
is there another fuse box for the rear?
Any help appreciated, not so bothered by rear wiper not working but the boot not opening is annoying.
Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
Does your rear washer work?
I would suspect that the rear washer has leaked into the eiper motor and siezed the spindle and water has got into the lock solenoid causing the lock to stop working.
bloody smart phones....

thanks for the reply
Just tried the washer and nothing. No signs of water leak though?
Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
If the pump is working the water is going somewhere.
Take the tailgate trim off and check.

Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
Rear Pump is moving water and the hose is all connected up.
checked the boot actuator and replaced still the same thing, can only open the boot with the key.
No noise or sign of life if I press the boot micro switch or the key fob
any other ideas?
Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
Do you have water coming out of the jet on the rear washer ?
bloody smart phones....

Yep
Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
OK. Power at the lock ?
You could have broken/frayed wires in the loom at the tailgate hinge.

Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
I did start looking at the top of
the tailgate and removed the trim to let me get to the rubber grommet covering the loom into the boot. Is there a possibility the wires may be damaged within? Don't really want to have to cut the rubber loom protector open unless I have to.
Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
You could check for power at the lock and the wiper to rule out loom problems.

Thanks will pick one up and take a look
Re: No power in a4 avant boot lock and rear wiper
I had a similar but different problem with my Avant, tailgate warning light was on even though door was closed, also, wiper would work occasionally even though it was switched off. Turns out it was my the seal in my wiper motor(washer pipe travels down middle of wiper spindle)was leaking, filling the wiper motor electrics with water making the motor run whenever it liked. The water then dripped into the boot door catch/sensor giving me the false door open warning on the dash. After taking the catch/sensor apart I noticed the leaking windscreen wash had corroded the terminals almost completely away. Fitted new wiper motor and catch sensor and all was fine.

Check the wiring that goes near the boot hinge common place for them to break
