If you had to choose.........M3 or RS4???
I am sure that this is going to open a healthy debate. Have been to Soper BMW this morning as they were having a launch party for the new M3 and they had a couple of them in the metal in the showroom and I have to say, that it does look absolutley stunning in the metal.
However, I would still have a RS4 mostly because I have driven one of them, it has 4 doors, 4 wheel drive, comes in an estate version, it is understated and above all, it is an Audi.
Your thoughts please.......Let the debate begin

I would rather walk for the rest of my life than own a poxy BMW! What’s the difference between BMW and Mercedes drivers? BMW drivers think they own the road, Mercedes drivers know they on the road.

Funny, the TopGear article with the RS4 racing the two speed climbers in France was on last night on BBC4 or some other freeview channel... he said it kicked the *** of the beemer, ok, its an older model than the 07 one you are asking about. As i'll never have the chance to own either i'll answer with Clarkson's choice... the RS4!!!! :p

Remember that episode, he did say I believe with regards to the new M3 it would have to be very good to beat the RS4 when it came out. Well its coming out so we'll all soon know. I'd still have the RS4 though, looks so much more purposeful in my view, and a more practical car too!

If I had to pick it would be a struggle, they both have good points and probably one or two bad. I have not driven or been in as a passenger either so am probably not at liberty to comment.
I think they both look fantastic, but there are an awful lot of BMW coupe's on the road. Same for Audi A4's:outtahere

Tis a good point, how much is an RS4 or a BMW M3 new? There are plenty of other good motors out there second hand for what about £49?
Second hand RS4 or M3 is a different thing. Still can't choose one over the other though, they both look good cars.
Would still be Italian I am afraid.. :p

The last RS6 was a serious weapon, a sledge hammer, and I agree, if I had the choose between a new current RS4 and the old RS6, I would take an RS6 Plus Avant any day.

Tough one to do, it would be difficult as no manual version was built although it could be possible to use the 01E box from the 97 but it is from a car with 126PS less. The 01L auto box is still great and in the real world, in gear acceleration is more pertinent and an auto will always have the edge over a manual in that situation. Driving a remapped RS6 hard gives such rapid acceleration that you hardly have time to think about shifting manually.

Sadly you can no longer order a new RS4 as Audi have stopped making them. If you want a new RS4 you'll have to find a dealer with one in stock.
It's because Audi only ever have one RS model in their range and the RS4 has had to make way for the new RS6.

Changing my plea to the new V10 Biturbo RS6, ouch what a machine (well in writing anyway!!), just gotta keep saving those 1p, 2p & 5p coins and before I know it i'll have £75k to buy one!!!

obviously the rs4.
bmws are w*nk the pedals are horrible for a start, as is driving position, cr*p seats, everything in the cabin looks ostentatious and reminds me of rover/early range rover, just the general feel of the car is horrid, i had the use of an M3 evo for a few weeks and tbh preferred my VR6 at the time, the VR was worth a fraction of the price but everything about the beemer just said "hello world, I am an egomaniac in a pricey piece of absolute nonsense"

Well, why I am not surprised?? Don't think one of the replies is in favour of the M3 and that is echoed in the motoring press as well. Although the M3 is a superb piece of engineering I think I have read only one review (in EVO I think it was) that puts the M3 over the RS4.
As for the policy of Audi making only one RS version of its cars, that is a brave move, but it gives them more time to polish the final product without having to spread the engineering talents and development personnel too thinly.
Question, always wondered how one becomes a development driver for one of the big companies??
Anybody know?????
Long live the RS versions of the Audi family. Have read today in Autocar that there will be in 2009 an RS version of the TT which will use the S3 engine and is going to be pitched directly at the Porsche Cayman and BMW Z4M coupe......should be interesting!!!
As for this debate, long may it continue.............

Shame Audi couldn't make a five door RS3 with a shoe horned V8 planted under it's diddly little bonnet.
5 door cos i need a 5 door and i'd love an S3 but they never have enough doors!

I am not the slightest bit surprised on the comments. This is an VAG forum after all. Post the same thread BMWland.co.uk or some other BMW forum and see what wins :p
As for motoring mags, I love reading them but only the long term car tests mean much. Anyone can get in a car for a day and thoroughly enjoy it, when it comes to running that car long term day to day only then does it mean anything.
Not to mention I am sure half these journalist/mags are up certain manufactures back sides.

is anybody here really fed up of seeing 3 series going around looking identically the same because they all have those 18" MV alloys? or is it just me? because its starting to do my head in.. lol

Ita bit off topic but the RS8 wheel is nice, but when you have polo, then a golf, then T4 van, then Caddy then a Audi A4 then a A3 then a......go past they look more common than Steel wheels;)
funny thing is I've never seen an A8 with them :(

No, I have never owned a BMW coupe, though I think they are one of the best looking modern cars on the road. There are an awful lot about I admit, though lets be honest a good few Audi A4's too.
Just been helping a neighbour with his 330Cd in black, which has some big alloys (not sure of the name). Think it looks fantastic, though he had the "get me home" wheel on, which kind of makes it look daft :p

Definately the RS4 since Poole Audi offered me one to have a drive in.
Can't afford one so how about buying an A6 with the old S4 engine in it and having it chipped.
290bhp and 440 torques! :biglaugh:
I'll go for that until I win the lottery.
Got to work out what that rattling is first before I go chipping though. :confused:

actually best looking VAG wheels are 19" RS6 :biglaugh: and they are the least common, rs8 and rs4 wheels are on every tom **** and harry golf, though the rs4 nouvolari's are pretty sexy...:o
