struggling with AMI part numbers
Hi guys,
I know there's loads of posts already about AMI but I'm struggling to work out the part numbers I need.
According to the car data print out from Audi I have "7T2 Nav Low" ""8DP Radio Low II" and "7A6 CD player/Changer".
In the glove box I have a dvd drive with two sd card slots and a cd changer.
I want to replace the CD changer with an AMI.
I take it I don't need optical bridge cables?
Will I need vag-com?
and what is the part no for the AMI that will just slot in?
any help greatly aprreciated
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
If you have MMI High (Large colour screen) above the centre airvents AMI will work, you may need to update your FW version.
If you have Basic or Basic+ AMI cannot be fitted
AMI will be a straight swap with the CD changer if you have High and your FW is new enough.
That is me guessing you have a pre-facelift car.
Facelift cars are different, you need activation with Audi.

On that note, AMI is wired directly into the 5F unit. Jon said it's easy but I'm pretty sure you need some sort of activation dongle/update from Audi to enable the feature.
You can keep your changer as AMI is located on the roof of the glovebox and only the port is showing, unlike the 2G where its a seperate box.

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
thanks for the quick reply.
I don't think it's MMI high as the nav is DVD based.
I don't know what you mean by basic or basic+?
I have a face lift car.

sorry Chris, what's a "5f" unit?

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
I (think) its like the central hub where all your entertainment features live and where your MMI features work from.
A handy thread would be to look here ipod confusion audi models
Jon covered most models from memory on that thread, also look at his started threads as he's commented on it in the past.

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
i've just seen Audi A6 AMI retrofit - YouTube which has the same setup as my car, so it can be done if I had the part numbers.......

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
Kuaftec do a kit for £320 ish ... which includes:-
- Activation will be automatically completed once you plug in the OBD-diagnostic interface
- Re-usable diagnostic interface (only for one vehicle)
Link:- AMI Audi Music Interface - Retrofit - Audi A6 4F w/ MMI 3G-36739-1_M
If the kuaftec kit include such a thing do you think AMI 3G can be activated by VCDS Chris?
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
That kit looks the same as the eBay one, plus thats an OBD thing so it could well be enabled via VCDS.
I know the coding is limited for the 5F so this is where the confusion may lay. Ideally we need someone to see if the AMI is an option within the 5F.

Regards
G

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
from looking at the ebay link the part number is 4F0051960.
I've not been able to find much about the part but have emailed the seller to ask for more information, specifically re coding and install.
From the picture it looks like the cable doesn't use optical connectors.

I don't, i was planning to go and see Dean at Autodeutsch (in Manchester UK) to get some coding done so I could ask him to look up the control unit.

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
Get a faull auto scan of the car printed out or emailed to yourself and post it up here so we can see the hw/sw revisions ;)

Roy has a 2009 vs revver's 2010 , if Roy's support it then revver's should in theory as it is newer and will have newer 5f/software...

If so, a few screendumps for the long coding helper for the 5F would help ;)

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
P/N for lead is 4F1 971 086 B approx. £175 @ dealer ...
P/N for port trim in the glove box is 4F0 035 909 approx. £4 @ dealer ...
Next method ...

ami lead part number 4f0 035 909 (just check to make sure the securing clip comes with the lead to locate the dock in the glove box)
this lead plugs direct into the 5f control unit so no need to splice wires etc
the glove box has a pre cut position so you can remove the glove box find the pre cut and push the insert out and locate the ami ipod dock
then plug the ami lead into the ami and refit the glove box
now you need to access the hidden menu in address 5f
select address 5f
select adaption 10 channel 6 and set the value to 1 and save
now reboot the mmi using the softkeys
when the mmi comes back on press and hold set up and car until the green menu comes on
scroll down find diagnosis and enter then select settings and then scroll down to ami set this to 7/8
come out of the green screen and reboot mmi
now test the ami
total cost around £170
IMPORTANT
Any software updates will wipe the function so you need to reapply the changes if your vehicle has any dealer updates
We just need to suss which versions of 5F support AMI ...

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
are you sure about the part numbers?
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
PM an external email address ... then you can decide ...

Re: struggling with AMI part numbers

I think I can go to TPS/Audi parts dep with the part numbers and normally they can tell me which is suitable for my car
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
TPS (in most cases) won't serve you as you aren't trade (unless you are)
Audi parts dept will get all parts via your VIN.
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
TPS always serve me!
They can do a "reverse search"

had a look but it's not much use......there's nothing in the long code helper relating to media input/interfaces.
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
Press the 'down arrow' on your keyboard and on that screen and it will move along the bytes ;)
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
I know, nothing there relating to media just other MMI menu stuff......
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
Ahh okay.
Are there many blank spaces? Ie tick boxes but with no text beside them?
-
Re: struggling with AMI part numbers
From memory I don't recall seeing any without text. TBH I don't think VCDS has access to the subsystems within the 5F, unless someone knows how?
Edit... just googled some of the subsystem part numbers and they're just switch panels and map data so maybe we're looking in the wrong place for AMI and similar??

Now the bold text is the element to enable AMI via the green/service menu not VCDS ... from my own meddling in green/service menu of MMI 2G you can change coding/adaptations in other modules of car ...
Only way c4a5er you will know if its a coding change or adaption is to scan codings/adaptions with and without AMI enabled and compare, if there are no labels/helper balloons to tell us in VCDS ...

I have misinterpreted this section of A8 Tech's instructions :Blush2: ...
What it means is that if you do the AMI MMI 3G retrofit DIY @ home when you go for a dealer software update which is MMI related it will be undone and you will need to recode it again ...
This occurs due to how when car is plugged into VAS and communication occurs between it and VAG server it will recode car to what it had out of factory, ie no AMI ...
