An E revision is a minimum. But will need software code 0048. Otherwise H or higher is needed. The software code can only be done by dealer-style equipment, so it's not cost effective unless you have friends!
In VCDS my module 19 comes up as:
Part No SW: 3C0 907 530 C HW: 3C0 907 951 A
Component: Gateway 007 0040 <<<< this is the software coding
The plug needs to be fully home into the CANbus module, you should here a sharp click as it engages its locator tab. Otherwise you run the risk of not all pins making good contact. Been there, done that and lost a load of other module codings too!

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Ah ok thats that explains alot. Also if i upgrade my canbus, would i get any more functionality in my car via VCDS? eg coming home lights or any tweaks like that?

Full name for this module is CANbus controller -- it sees and registers other CANbus functions.
Believe coming home/leaving home lights is done via CECM (Central Electronics Control Module) Havn't been thru all the possible functions of all the modules myself but do want an uprated one of those as there are some tweaks in the later versions available that arn't in the earlier one such as "teardrop" (wipers do an additional delayed single wipe after screen wash); Auto-autohold (comes on with ignition when foot's on brake) These and others are in the CC's CECM
PM me your e-mail address and I can send you the files I'd collected on this and CANbus.
Eventually, didn't go the RNS/RCD route as back in 2008 there wasn't too many of those head units second hand around at good price. And by the time I'd factored in CANbus upgrade, DAB, reversing camera, and Bluetooth, plus installation there wasn't much in it as against a new JVC with removable touchscreen for a grand installed inc. VAT -- downside is there's not been a map update since 2009, Audio menu on MFD doesn't show any info, star and mute buttons on MFSW don't work (but all others do)

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Module codings are explained on my site. Just adding a new module doesn't always give you new functions because often functions depend on extra wires or other model upgrades etc.

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Why dont you just leave the current canbus and install modified RNS 510 firmware to prevent battery drain. I did it on my 56 plate passat and it works great, had my RNS 510 for over a year without a problem.

I have an 05 sport passat and just installed an RNS510, software 3810 and had to remove the fuse because of battery drain. Could you post a link to where you got the software update to stop this. found one site but it never downloads fully, keep getting errors.

There you go:
Unofficial 272x software and SWL recovery CD
you want the one named "Fix for old CAN gateways"
The download works, I just tried it. You will need unzip it then burn it onto a CD (its an iso file) then pop it into your RNS510.

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Hi, my name is Adrian and I live in Brazil.
I'm in desperate need of help and I see that you know the subject well.
I have a 2008 TSI Passat and when installing an Eonon brand multimedia hub that second manufacturer is plug & play in the Passat from 2006 causes a conflict causing the steering to be hard and the red light on the instrument panel. Can you tell me if I change my GATEAWAY to a newer one? Thank you very much. My email is festadance@gmail.com, and whatsapp is +5524999953202

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
What is the Eonon multimedia hub model name or number? Is it Android?

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Android units need to have an uprated CANbus module suffix letter "F" or later
I don't know why your Steering Assist module is reporting this fault. Was the
steering wheel upgraded to a multi-function with buttons version also?
-
Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
My steering wheel the original Passat 2008. So I actually installed this multimedia Eonon.
My gateaway is SW: 3C0 907 530 E HW: 3C0 907 951
Do you think that if I update my cangateaway with a newer one (letter L for example) I solve this problem?
Thank u for help me

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Early "E" versions did produce faults with the latest head units
Later "E" versions did not produce faults
So I recommend "F" or later
I don't know why your Steering Assist module is reporting this fault
I have not seen a wrong CANbus module produce this fault on Steering Assist
You say your steering wheel is original.
Original with buttons or original without buttons?

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
My steering wheel has 8 buttons.
Now what worries me the most is that yesterday I took out the multimedia Eonon, and returned it with the original radio of the car. After I correct the error everything ok, but now in the morning before sending this message I went to do a test and to my surprise the error came back. Steering continues hard, indicating the red steering wheel on the dashboard even with the original radio installed.
Do you have any idea what might be causing this to happen?
Sorry to be asking you so many questions, but in the city where I live here in Brazil, there is practically no reliable manpower to handle this car,
Thank you very muchhttps://www.flatout.com.br/wp-conten...TO-VOLANTE.jpg

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
The previous photo was from the internet. In this msg I am posting current photos that I myself took from the car.I am also sending the photo of the decoding of the multimedia Eonon and the original radio of my car as well?

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
I cannot see your photos. I do not have your account
Post your Autoscan with the original radio installed -- we can then give some ideas of why your steering is giving error

Hi, I just got the autoscan today.
And I saw that I'm in trouble on the drums. It was completely discharged. I could not even start the car.
One remark, previously I checked the charge was reporting around 13 through the information of the multimedia.
The autoscan done today is already with the original radio installed.

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
This is a counterfeit version of VCDS.
I don't understand "I'm in trouble on the drums. It was completely discharged." Do you mean the battery?
If your battery is without charge then modules will report errors which are not correct errors but because of bad battery
Your Autoscan shows:
"02385 - Rain / Light Recognition Sensor Function Restricted due to
Under-Voltage
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100010
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 183
Mileage: 149435 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2017.03.20
Time: 11:51:00
Freeze Frame:
ON
Voltage: 9.55 V
ON
ON
OFF
OFF
OFF"
Also other supply faults such as "Terminal 30" and "B+" errors.
New battery needed. Then go into each module and clear the errors. IGN off. Exit car. Lock. Wait 10 mins to go into sleep mode. Re-enter car. IGN only on. New Autoscan
Beware using this version of VAG-com. Counterfeits can give errors too :zx11:

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Yeah, I was referring to the car battery. Sorry, my mistake. My English is not very good.
I'm using a friend's VCDS, and did not know it was not original.
Anyway my battery was really in trouble. I took it to the store where I bought it and the person responsible put a full load on it.
Put the battery back in my car and this time with full charge, I turned on the car and the steering has already unlocked,
I ask you, if the battery of the vehicle is not fully charged can it generate this type of break in the car?
Another question, I've been reading in other forums and I've seen people commenting that there is a problem with can-gateaway that causes drain on the battery, do you know anything about it?
Thank you very much

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
So, your steering is working now?
Latest Android head units and the VW RCD510 and RNS510 will need a CANbus part number "F" suffix or later
Some "E" suffrix are OK, some not

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
When placing the batwria recharged in the first moment the steering wheel returned to the normal one. But after a few hours (parked car) I called again and the error returned. Remember that the car has the original radio installed (I removed the multimedia eonon thinking that it was causing this problem). Is this with letter F or later and compatible plug & play with my Passat 2008 year? I ask this because I got one with the letter L. Thank U
-
Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Yes, suffix letter "L" is OK. But it must be for Passat (not Golf which start "1k0")
Your part should start "3c0"
If you change your CANbus module you should take a note of the old coding before removal.
Then switch on the CANbus module switches you want in your new module -- not just enter
the old coding into the new module.
If you now have original radio and original CANbus ("E") then you should not still have
battery discharge problems -- you only need your "L" if you are upgrading your head
unit to RCD510 or RNS510 or the latest Andriod units
I suspect now another problem causing your battery to discharge -- either the battery is bad
(disconnect it, then fully charge, then leave overnight, then re-connect to see if steering fault returns)
Or you have another fault
How long does it take to fully charge the battery from fully discharged?
What charger are you using?

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
After checking that my battery was without load I took it to the store where I bought it and the technician gave full charge for 24hrs. At that moment she is already back to the car with full load. However when I put it back in the car instantly the steering wheel error was corrected. I walked with the car normally to test and it did not present any fault so I parked. A few hours later, when the power was turned on again, the steering wheel error returned.

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
You can "fully charge for 24 hours" a good battery. And it will hold the charge that's been given
You can "fully charge for 24 hours" an old battery. And it will not hold the charge -- either it will not accept charge shown by the charge current staying on the charger's meter and not falling. Or showing fully charged by the current meter falling within one or two hours.
If you are satisfied that your battery is good, then you have an electrical leak in your car discharging your battery. Difficult to find except by opening each of the fuses below your fuse box and leaving overnight.
Tell us how much current is being taken when the car's ignition is off and key removed. Disconnect battery negative and check to see on the highest current range your meter has between the battery negative terminal and chassis. If you have an analogue (needle) meter then start on the 1A range and gradually reduce.
The maximum drain allowed when a B6 is locked and all accessories are switched off (“sleep” mode) is 50mA.
This thread has two videos about battery problems and alternator problems

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
My friend, sorry for the delay in answering.
My problem seems to be more serious. I had to take the car to a workshop outside my city. The car's steering has now caught up straight. I can not turn to either side. And the error in the scanner does not appear in detail. I have already identified that the problem is not with the car radio because now it is with the original factory and the steering is still locked without possibility of third. Do you have any idea what this might be? Thank you very much

Re: help upgrading 2006 passat canbus
Without you using VCDS to make an Autoscan and post it here (it is a .txt file) I don't know what is happening to your car.
And without seeing the car in person noone else can say what is happening from what you have posted here in forum
Each module reports faults that it finds as a fault code. Those reports will be shown on an Autoscan. You may have to go to a major city
to find a shop with VCDS.
If your steering is locked in the straight ahead position (security lock) then that may not be an electronic fault but a mechanical one. I find I have to sometimes move the steering wheel at the same time as turning the key to first position.
