Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
All,
I'm sure this may have be debated on several occasions previously. I am just about to order an S Line but as Im adding extras to the lease vehicle I have found myself in the situation that I can only have solid paint. So should I go with Ibis white or Brilliant black? Black does seem to sut the S line but having never owned a black car I have only heard the scare stories of keeping it clean.
I would appreciate your thoughts.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
You'll have just as much fun keeping both clean ;-)
As Hippo said in the other thread just flip a coin and go with that if you really can't decide.
Personally I would have the black but that's just me.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
I think white would be easier to live with. Also if its a lease car there is no concerns on resale value when it falls out of fashion and the s-lines looking kinda cool in white...
I have a black new shape A6 loaner at the mo (i smashed the last one they gave me :() and its looking pretty grubby after 2 days and i can imagine it will show swirls quite easily.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
my old A3 was a pearl black and it was a nightmare to clean - you thought you had done a good job for about 10mins and then it dried :(
-
Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
Some lease companies have to approve white cars due to the resale value as mentioned, I know mine does. If they have said yes, then you have nothing to lose.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
and go for the non-cost optional 10 spoke wheels and given them a bit of a dust over with a can of black spray paint..........

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
I had a black company car many years ago (one of the first Mondeo's). When clean it was nice .... but it never was. In the summer it was covered in flies and dust and in the winter muck and salt. I was doing nearly 30k a year and it was always dirty despite regular cleaning.
The thing that really put me off was black cars get a LOT hotter inside than lighter cars. My boss had a silver one and there was a massive difference in the heat build up.
I said I'd never have another black car and so far I haven't.
(I have to admit my Mondeo didn't have A/C so that could help but the initial build up will still be there)
p.s. White seems like a pain but I've never had one. I'd go for Brilliant Red ;)

I think white does suit the new A4, but sadly white does have some sort of stigma in the marketplace. I would have bought an A4 in white if I'd stumbled on a good one, but I would never buy a black one under any circumstances.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
I prefer dark colours, so black for me. All my cars apart from my last Audi have either been black or dark grey.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
I thought I'd throw in my 2p's worth. Over the years I think I've had most of the Audi solid colours on various company cars. Brilliant Black, Blue red and white. And a solid yellow RS4 for good measure! At the moment I have a Garnet red A6 Avant. A very nice colour and fairly easy to keep looking good. I used a little effort to get the cars paintwork clayed, sealed with finishkare FK1000p and then waxed it with collinite 476s. I've done that no more than three times in coming up to two years.
Black is hell on earth to keep clean, summer or winter it matters not, your car will look filthy within half an hour of using the carwash. Forget waxing it, it'll still look filthy. Everything will mark it from the lightest rain, to bugs in the summer. The car will look down at heel 99.5% of the time. As I think may have been pointed out in an earlier post it also gets very hot in summer. I won't bore you with the blue, red or yellow.
White can be a PITA to keep clean in the depths of winter. But it's nowhere near as bad as black! In the summer however it really is a cool colour. The Audi 80 I had seemed to go very flat after about six months. I'm told that modern paints don't do this.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that silver is the "best" colour for looking good even when not washed very often. I did have a company A6 Avant in silver for about a week, but then a ruddy big lorry tried mating with the Audi (whilst it was parked) End result, a somewhat SWB DIY Bent-ley estate car!
Given your limited choice I think I'd go for white. Or de-spec the car a little, and have a wider colour choice.
Kind Regards.
Paul.

i got a white...it turns heads...

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
Denim blue was good. You could wash the wheels and it made the rest of the car look clean again. Audi have ditched this colour, but ScottyUK's car is a nice colour. Just be aware that if you do go for that colour and he sees you around, he may torch your car!:D
Silver doesn't do it for me, there are too many of around. I get great satisfaction parking between 4 or 5 silver cars in a car park.

I much prefer to try and blend in.
Besides, if your car turns heads I genuinely reckon it could be a useful exercise to try and ascertain if it turns heads for the right reasons. :o I readily accept that if turning heads is the only objective, then that's good enough... but (although I'm not usually that bothered about what folk think) I'd not, ideally, want people turning their heads at me and thinking "what a dufus", then chuckling to themselves. Not that I'm implying they are.
To be clear.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
It's not about turning heads, it's about being slightly different. I have the standard S-Line with no mods, apart from the dent in my front wing:(.
Going back to colours, it's definately black for me, despite how much of a pain it is to keep clean.

I nearly bought my TT in Denim Blue .... until I saw it in cloudy conditions and I went off it instantly! I went for Amulet Red instead.
Aruba seems more vivid regardless of the weather.
Oh and I'd only condider torching it if you bought exactly the same car and was my neighbour! ;)
p.s. He's got that loaner back again ! hehehehe

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
*cough cough* black *cough*.
Horses for courses. I had this same dilemma..glad it wasnt just me :D. I went for the black in the end...only because it takes longer to look dirty, and has that kinda "stealth" sleek look to it.

I am glad (and proud) that we have collectively been able to quickly, clearly and unequivocally help the OP with his dilemma.
Not that I'm a fan, but I think Michael Jackson possibly said it best, with: "It don't matter if you're black or white" and "I'm not going to spend my life being a colour", although the last bit might've been Macaulay Culkin, I dunno, it was all pretty dodgy anyway.

Black it is then...or was he white:confused:

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
I own a phantom black S-Line and I wash it at least once a fortnight. I never seem to have the problem that others have making it gleam. My neighbour on the other hand owns a white Passat CC and it dulls a couple of days after washing. The bug bloodshed on the front looks really bad at the moment. Just my experience.
White certainly turned heads, up until it became commonplace on the roads. If your looking for a timeless, classic colour then black is the better option IMO.

Agreed, I've also got a phantom black s-line, but with a b7 model, after some paint correction, glaze, sealant and a couple coats of a decent wax the dirt slides off with a pressure wash.

Re: Ibis White or Brilliant Black.
Guys,
Thanks for the help. I enjoyed the debate although I'm sure all your cars look great.
I have ordered the S line 136ps in brilliant black and its due on Sept 8th!
Cheers
