Passat left rear door wont open

Hi just bought a 2002 passat the left rear door will not open from inside or out. HELP! please. Tried holding the handell and banging gently with my hand but the thing still wont budge.

I have the idenitical problem with my car and wondering if you have succeeded into fixing it yet? I have resorted to booking ii on to a garage. They say they will remove the door off its hinges as they are visble when the fron door is open then diagnose the true fault. all in all a lot of labour.

Still not sorted but will be looking at the possibility of removing hinge pins;) with front door open. :biglaugh: Heres hopeing

What happens to the electrics going from the door pillar to the door?

Are there only two bolts holding the hinges to the door?

I have just paid a local garage to sort this problem out now, albeit i am £190 lighter.

Hinge pin removal was a suggestion they didint seem impressed with. however as specialists they knew what to do exactly, they took off some of the interior trim and took out the window/window regulator to get at the cheap looking plastic door lock machanism, basically the plastic clogs had somehow dislodged (suspect is due to pulling on the handle too hard). the mechanic glued this back so it could not dislodge again and so far so good. the proper job was to replace all the mechanisms and a new hadnle this was in the region of 120 for parts and a couple of hours labour.

I have the same problem on my 99 TDi passat.
I have the glass out and the door panel off but you just can't get your hand up and into the door catch. Any other people have this problem?

Took me ages to sort out but can now do the job in about an hour tops, without temovin the doo panel? cost about £ for one part from VW or £1 from a breakers or there is another way. tony@uktrousers.com direct contact is Less complicated :Blush:

Hi, try a good hard slap just under door handle with the palm of your hand I have the same problem from time to time works every time just dont bash it!

I have a 2005 jetta same problem rear door will not open from either side, what happen god only knows. need help
