Audi A3 8P Drivers window not winding down and central locking issues.
Hi guys, I'm experiencing some new issues with my A3 8P, 2009, that I hoping some of you may be able to help me with. The biggie for now is the drivers window not going down. I think it randomly started some time this week. Pressed the window switch to roll down the window and nothing happened, continued through out the week and is currently doing the same. I can roll down/up the passenger side window from the window button switch at the drivers side.
I had an issue with the window regulator on the passenger side not that long ago, but that gave more obvious signs of what caused that issue.
I see people say to check the fuses, but is it a case of if the passenger side window is working it won’t be the fuse as that one should not work too, if it was the fuse?
I’ve been doing some research and people have said to check the wiring between the door, to the car. I tried to pull off the rubber grommet where the wiring harness plugs into the car, but I had difficulty getting the back of it off. I got the 2 front clips out but couldn’t get the back clips out, I’m guessing there will be 2 at the back too? I could stretch the front out a bit to have a peek inside and from what I could see, the wires looked okay. I took the door card just to check the part number of the Window Motor which is 8P0959801K. I saw that sometimes there is a issue with the Door Switch, where the window button are, how would I be able to tell if there is an issue with those?
The other issue is related to the car's central locking, I can lock the car by pressing the key fob. When pressing the key fob to unlock the car. It does the double light flash but I have to use my key in the door to open the drivers door. The passenger side door I have to open from the inside, these issues have been going on for a while, but I’ve lived with them but ideally I could get these sorted out as well. But the main issue Iwant to deal with is getting my drivers window to wind down for when using tickets machines, etc.
I did VCDS scan of my car and had quite a few errors. The ones I believe related to these issues are below.

Every component in driver's door has fault - strong possibility that You have read correctly - look for wiring issue in the loom between the door and car.

Thanks, I'll have another look later. When trying to pull the rubber grommet out I couldn't get the back clips out. Theres not much space, to push clips at the back with fingers.
I tried to take a video of what I could see, here is a screen grab of that. I'm on mobile phone at the moment and don't see an upload option. I'll upload an image when I get to desktop.

This is what I could see, when pulling the rubber grommet away from the front. Like I mentioned I couldn't seem to get the back clips off, felt like I would break it just pulling it with out pressing the "tabs" at the back? Any tips for getting it fully off? and is this where the issue is likely to be?

The wires tend to break past where you can see in your pic. The two clips at the back are the same as the front - you do need to get your fingers behind and press them in to remove, it's tricky but doable. Maybe try putting the front back in place, then removing the back clips first might help.

Thanks for the tips, I managed to get it off, doing as you said. At least 3 wires were broken. Not sure if I might have broke one wire further as the key fob is not locking my door afterwards. I can manually lock the door though.
Does this mean I need a wiring loom or repair kit? The broken wires that I could see were the brown one, red and green one, black one, and then a couple of others had little breaks in them

Re: Audi A3 8P Drivers window not winding down and central locking issues.
Called Audi, they said that there's two options it could be after first saying that they don't make them anymore, this was after he said he will check if there were repair wires, so maybe he was talking about those. Refused to give out part numbers for the 2 options that he mentioned.
First option. £197. Connects to the window regulator, switches and mirror. (he said attaches to the door card)
Second option. £197. Attaches to window motor and goes to the car body (mentioned that it has a rubber grommet, that I mentioned when trying to describe where it was, what it looked like)
Re: Audi A3 8P Drivers window not winding down and central locking issues.
I've just spliced in new wire lengths for the broken (and cracked, soon to be broken) wires. A bit fiddly as its not always easy to get enough 'good' wire to splice to in the available space. However, it has worked. On another car I bought a new plug with flying leads from ebay (maybe around £20?). Take the door card off, pull the plug and part of harness through from the inside of the door and then it's relatively easy to splice in every wire before threading back through the door and reconnecting. The proper way would of course be to replace the whole wiring loom (your second option).
Re: Audi A3 8P Drivers window not winding down and central locking issues.
Thanks for the advice.
I managed to change the loom with one I got from ebay today. But I might have to mess with it again tomorrow as it was getting too dark outside. The only issue, I had is the little black clip that goes into the door near the speakers was facing the wrong way, so I couldn't clip it in and the metal clip that slides onto the inside of the door below that area wouldn't clip on.
Originally, After I threaded the cable through the door, I noticed the main plug was upside down, but I could turn it to get it upright. I hope I don't have to take the whole cable out again. I don't want to risk damaging any of the wires on the connector to the car body, as when I took the old one off, I pulled it by the wires as it was getting replaced.
Re: Audi A3 8P Drivers window not winding down and central locking issues.
Okay, here's a little update. I got the wire clip on, I put the door card back on, turned on the car and I have nothing working on the drivers side switch(window wind up/ mirror movement) before it was just the drivers side window not moving.
I dug out my laptop with VCDS and it said it had an hour battery left, thought okay I'll probably get a scan, started the scan near the end it cut out but got the initial results without clearing. I have the laptop on charge now, I'll later clear and rescan. Could it be a fuse?
