New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Evening all,
So after 5 years of happy B6 Passat ownership (a 2006 2.0 TDI DSG model), as of last week I've become a member of the A6 fraternity with this...
Attachment 21055
Attachment 21056
.... a 2005 3.0 TDI Quattro with lots of toys including sunroof, auto lights, rear parking sensors, MFSW, factory bluetooth, full colour MMI etc - to say I'm well chuffed would be an understatement! :)
So, now that I have her I'm already wondering what I can do with her. Are there any "essential knowledge and tweaks every A6 owner should know!" type suggestions?
I've also gotten a hold of a VCDS cable & software so some things that would be nice to setup (from reading other posts) would be:
- Activate the hidden MMI menu .. CAR+SETUP doesn't work?
- Activate the Parking sensor display (if possible?)
- Disable the pasenger seat belt warning .. very annoying when all that's there is the shopping!
- Set DRLs (front and back) to enabled
- Again, any other "must haves"
Bear in mind I'm completely new to VCDS so any "idiot's guides to VCDS" would be great here too.
Cheers for any tips, suggestions or links.

Welcome to A6 ownership!
Hidden green menu needs vcds to enable - only real tweak in here is the battery meter
Optical lines are possible if your parking module supports it, a check with vcds would tell you the PN
You need vcds for this (you can see where this is going!)
DRLs on halogen models are dipped beam and rear tails (again, vcds is needed ;))
I wrote one for Brycie, I will try and get this off him and forward it on.
All the tweaks are here under prefacelift - https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...p-Pre-Facelift
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Just sent you the walkthrough ;)
Will post this in the open forum too :)
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Cheers Chris,
Some interesting reading there alright. So all I need to do is connect the cable, fire up VCDS and follow the instructions is it? (sounds too easy!)
Speaking of easy.. how easy is it to screw up settings when messing with this stuff - coming from an IT background I'm looking at this as the registry of the car.. something to be edited very carefully!
Thanks for the offer of doing this all for me, but I don't get up North much these days unfortunately. Used to get the Passat serviced in Enniskillen alright but I've moved back to Dublin since there ya see.
EDIT: Just got the walkthrough as I was typing this - thanks again! :)
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
I just sent you the guide, I edited my first post as I skimmed over the part of you having the kit
Everything is reversible, vcds creates a CodingLog text file which shows all coding you've changed so everything is still there including original codes.

Hey Kaiser
This will also be a good read
A6 Secrets, really? :)
As I learnt new stuff and have had my car for over 10 months! :Blush2:
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Welcome from another new A6 owner! Had mine just over a week now and really pleased with it - comfortable, quiet, refined and lots of toys! Can't offer anything in the way of advice other than don't be afraid to ask questions, everybody here is friendly and helpful so ask away!
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Welcome to the C6 club Kaiser... I'm a noob here so I'm sure others as they have done will help :)

Hmm, on my 2006 Le Mans the DRL option was (soemwhere) in the MMI menus - 'cos I managed to enable it that way (I don't have VCDS). Ah, bi I have bi-Xenons, so perhaps that's the difference.
