the shell vmax diesel stuff is fantastic. Huge performance improvement over standard diesel, and even better that BPs ultimate stuff.
I was sure there would be a difference between standard diesel and these new elite fuels, but didnt think i would be able to feel a difference between BP ultimate and Shell Vmax..
What's even better is it cost me 94.9/litre...where as BP's stuff is close to a pound.
From my experience of trying all three types of fuel now, I belive Shell has definately worked out a good balance between diesel and the various additives that they use.
One point of interest though...my golf gets awfully smokey unless i give it a shot of this other diesel additive i found in halfords...chuck it in every full tank and seems to control the smoke.........
Interesting thread everyone.
On the Millers additive thing. I actually spoke to the head technician at Millers (about which oil is best for the VW TDI and the difference between Millers and Castrol Magnatec etc). He reccommended i try the Millers sport additive as he claimed an (upto) extra 12% power and improved MPG.
I have added it for 3 tanks now and I belive the ride and acceleration is smoother. The economy is modest but appreciable at £3-4 less per £50 tank, which works out at £2.30 - £3.30 per tank when you factor in the cost of the additive and it also is supposed to be cleaning the injectors, so i would advice people to give it a go. Ive tried redex and noticed nothing, if that helps.
As for graded fuel. I know there was a 'scandal' back in the early days of supermarket fueling, when they cut costs by getting cheaper grade fuel in, but do they not all conform to British Standards as far as grade goes? I think its just a case of whch additive they add, as another poster mentioned. I cant say i have noticed any difference between pumps and i just go for the closest.
saying that, when i used unleaded, i swore that the sainsburys stuff gave more MPG, but i thought i was imagining things!
anyway. I would advise giving the Millers a go, it seems to do the trick.
I have used the Shell V-Power Diesel in my 1996 Rover 220SD and have noticed much better pull at lower rev's. It made such a difference that even though it costs 6p a litre more I don't want to go back to the standard stuff.
every one seems to be agreeing that this new shell v power diesel is the muts nuts, lets all start sending shell emails asking when and where its going to become available to us all.
lets just see if any one can get an actual date and location.
think im going to be waiting a few month yet, you southeners have the best chance, LoL
when i found it in this shell station in london, i tried asking the guy when they would start selling it nationally and he just smiled at me blankly and gave me a leaflet....
Leaflet went on and on about cleaner injectors, some diesel audi that won the le mans, and some other sales jargon...
Useful...
im new to cars and stuff like this so its a steep learning curve for me and im loving it, i spent a good hour reading the shell web site, found it quite interesting........ might not be to some folk but im a newbie LoL
im having 2nd thoughts about the shell stuff....
BP Diesel Ultimate going in again on Monday...
My method of thinking is, BP must be able to justify that extra 5p some way. They must be using better tech or a more expensive additive, otherwise nobody would buy it.
Furthermore, I am CONVINCED that my car was quicker at high speeds with the Ultimate in it...it used to have decent pull in 5th gear..
Now its a bit slack
The experimentation continues..
