How do I keep this short?
I have an Audi A4 on an 08 plate
Was assured by Audi dealer that my ipod Classic 160gb would work with an cable costing £150. They checked this with Audi UK.
After ordering the vehicle, I decided to order the cable and was informed by the dealer that it would now cost me £500+ as there's a problem with various elements of the Concert System.
Of course, they did not offer to pay the difference, despite the fact that they knowingly have given me the wrong information.
Needless to say my frustrations with this are very large AND have been increased after finding that using an SD card faces similar issues in regards to Size & Playlists etc.
So, I'm here now and asking for help.
Spec
Audi 2.0 turbo diesel on an 08 plate
Concert Stereo system with controls on the stereo and steering wheel only
Spec says;
Radio: 8T2035186B
Display: 8T0919603A
HW: H11
SW: 0150
My desire is to;
Have full functionality of my iPod via the existing controls on the stereo and steering wheel and be have the iPod display on the existing display
(Ps I do not have sat nav)
So, can you help me;
1) Is this achieveable, if not what is?
2) What do I need and where can I get it
3) How much is this likely to cost.
There's a few drinks in it for anyone who lives near MK and has some helpful answers :beerchug:
Thanks in advance
Chris
Ok because your build is 2008 you need to fit a 2009 radio unit.(Please note this isnt approved and the dealer is well within there rights to refuse this modification)
Then you need to retro fit audi music interface (can bus) this display id tags and play the ipod as its intended also the mfs wheel can be used
You need a new glove box to house the ami unit.
Cost about £800 all in.
The 2009 radio units are backorderd and only a dealer can unlock the component protection function for the security of the radio,the ami can be encoded to the gateway with vcds via long code helper (but you need to change the long code for gateway to accept media position 3 ) your dealer may contribute to the retro fit.By fitting a 2009 radio unit the vehicles electronic identity has been changed so the server in Germany will always store a fault code highlighting the hardware version for the radio isn't compatible,this may caused issues when applying software updates to the vehicle networks and the dealer may refuse to take the job on.(changing 2008 radio for 2009 isn't approved by audi and they don't like to mess about with the networks on the cars)
So that's how you overcome the 2008 No aux Device input,there is no other way.
£800:aargh4::aargh4::aargh4::zx11::zx11::zx11:
Thanks for telling me and I'm not shooting the messenger
BUT
This is really disgraceful by Audi
From £150 to £800..
That's a 500% increase and £800 represents 3% of the total car cost
Surely Audi recognise this is an issue and will offer some sort of redress
I've got this car for 3 years - At this stage, it will be the 1st & Last Audi I ever own and I will ensure that my friends and companyt fleet people (Responsible for over 30,000 cars in the UK) Are actively encouraged to boycott them......
Can't believe that Audi need or want this sort of press!
The fault lies with the selling dealer as ami can be factory ordered,so its always been available depending on the specification you ordered.When B8 was launched ami was compatible with mmi systems and not generation 3 radio so the sales man should have explained you needed the higher spec option at that time where as of build week 22 2008 ami can be factory fitted and retro fitted to can bus gen 3 radio.Its really that simple,the sales man has misinformed you so if you do take it up with them please don't use this thread as a reference as i offer advise and don't wish to upset Audi or the dealer in anyway.Regards A8
Sorry, but after reading the thread I am still confused. I have an "Audi Navigation System plus" and want to connect my ipod touch. I have with it a six stack CD system in the glove compartment. I know that it is possible to hook up an MP3 player (behind the screen of the Nav System) using card readers (there are two slots). The dealer said I could connect by cable from the ipod to the system through a connection in the glove compartment (that currently connects the CD system BUT could not have both connected at the same time. Spoke to a young lady on a plane recently who also said an MP3 at least can be connected to an FM channel on the radio by using a cheap connector (wireless I think). Help please. It would be great to connect the ipod. Thanks:confused:
This AMI lark is driving me nuts! Every dealer I speak to gives me a different story!
What part numbers do I need to fit AMI to 57 plate A6? (mmi high+nav+6cd changer in glovebox) I know you need a new glovebox to make it 100% OEM but I arent bothered about this for now. I'll maybe change that later if/when its all working!
What VCDS changes are required? (if any)
Cheers A8!
Hello Issac
Both these looms 4F0051592A 4L0 055 307 should be fine for a6 as it has the fibre optics 30 and 31 plus the can bus to bridge into the existing loom at the cd multi changer.
You need the ami control unit and the cage
vcds add media position 2 to the gateway address 19 and that's it
I have the correct part numbers at work so i will dig them out for you,also update the mmi after installing to bring all the control units on the fibre optic network to the correct sw level.
I think you no which site to get the latest mmi update download from lol
Ok in this case th SD card function is far better than ipod as the sd card allows id tags to display you can use the transend Sd cards 4g so thats 8 g of music and a lot cheaper than ipod.
the part number for the audi ipod interface 8E0051444B this should be fine for Apple iPod touch firmware version 1.1.4 onwards but you will lose the cd changer as the ipod uses the cd plug on the nav unit which then emulates the 6 disc to allow ipod integration.I dont fit any other system but im sure there is a system that allow the cd and the ipod to be selected but this isnt covered by audi parts so try dension.
Cheers dude, I would appreciate the effort a great deal as this is driving me nuts! I am trying to ensure the dealer updates the MMI to 5150 before delivery but even this is proving hard!!
I will probably change the glovebox in the future to make it 100% neat and tidy but I'll be happy knowing what to order in the first place!
