I thought all bankers was well Waakers
Perhaps jealousy Crasher is the wrong word,
But lets examine what you said,
How have bankers moved this country forward?
They are almost entirely responsible for the five years of austerity the UK and half of europe have had to endure as a result of making loans to people without conducting due diligence, this has meant that using the banks depositors cash, they have recklessly lent to people who cannot afford to repay the money which these banks have let them borrow, the motivation for this is greed, greed for more and more commission, giving no regard to the fact that they are risking depositors money.
Not content with that, they have been found to have been involved in:
PPI Mis Selling
LIBOR Rigging
Pressure Selling (LLoyds £28m fine just two days ago)
Pension Commissions overcharging
Toxic Debt
Failing banks awarding their CEO's mind boggling salary increases and shares rewarding failure after failure
Bank appointing CEO who had no formal banking experience at all!!!
The list is endless, all I wanted to emphasise is Yes, footballers do get paid too much, but why focus on a group who entertain people but don't really do much harm and suggest that Bankers who are the personification of greed, deception and malpractice somehow belong to a group which brings benefit to the UK? How?
How can asking for a bale out and not honouring promises to lend to small businesses be beneficial to the country?
The result of this is that Governments have had to bail out several banks, how is this moving the country forward as you put it?
The answer it isn't, it's declaring open season on the normal struggling bank customer, and even in these times of severe austerity, bankers are trousering enormous bonuses and are basically sticking two fingers up to the government.
Recent figures suggest most of the big investment banks are carrying on just as they have always done, certainly no will in the tory party to do anything about it, that's for sure.
Governments having to bail out banks who if they went under would destroy all the depositors money, similar to that in Cyprus, just imagine how you would feel if you were locked out of your own bank account, and then told somebody had taken 40% of it , that's what happened in Cyprus
So the banks who in your words have moved the country forward have spent and lent recklessly, they find themselves in deep financial trouble and the taxpayer has had to bail them out, I would have thought Crasher you of all people who in your own words you describe as a "Staunch Tory" would be furious that taxpayers cash has had to be used to rescue these irresponsible idiots.
Why defend them as you appear to do? Why do you not criticise them with the gusto you reserve for public sector workers?
You always have plenty of scorn for public sector workers and their pensions, it's a drop in the ocean compared to the billions bankers have cost the country, why is it you can find scorn to pour on them yet somehow have the mistaken belief that bankers's
avarice and greed are beneficial to the UK?
Even now banks who have accepted bail outs from the public purse to rectify their sordid and dishonest little malpractices were required to lend an agreed proportion of money to small businesses just like yours Crasher, and guess what?
Yes correct, they haven't, yet another financial promise broken.
So we know they aren't supporting small businesses even as a condition of their bale out so:
I would be interested to hear you explain just how they benefit the UK?

The Jury are about to go away and deliberate on this soon.
The headbangers are still pleading not guilty to murder saying they are soldiers of allah and that they are at war.
Nothing to do with religion here, move along, move along.
I thought soldiers on "enemy" territory, wearing civvies were considered guilty of espionage and could be summarily executed?
having read all the posts just hope justice is seen to be done

Every tosspot who makes Murdoch richer is the reason, every Sky subscriber and pay on demand customer helps keep these things inflated, as the last good football game was played in 1994 I find it baffling as to why people will part with their hard earned to watch cheats and fairies anyway, football is non existent now, it's just like F1 where the pit crew decide who wins.
Life for them 2 cnuts but how long will they serve? I still think they should have got the double tap as they were arrested, still I'm an uncivilised person
No.
We must not do that, we must go through due process. We must not let our emotions run away with us, as difficult as that is sometimes, as we are better than that.
However, the sentencing for crimes such as that should be death by hanging.
