Recon exchange parts are nothing new from VAG or probably any other manufacturer and there is nothing wrong with the idea, in fact in the current way of thinking it is recycling and therefore good. They are all still Siemens units as far as I have seen. I did a set for another garage two weeks ago and I enquired on his behalf whether they would re-issue the invoice at the lower price and was told no. I went and told him that they had come down in price and said to him that being as they were bought on account and he has not paid for them yet he should tell them to do something about it.
I'm a single mum of two, completely clueless about the technicalities of cars, but thanks to this forum was informed enough to have just had all four injectors plus loom replaced free of charge at VW Norwich. My engine failed on Saturday night whilst travelling at 65 mph on the A 11 in Norfolk. My 8 year old daughter and I were left stranded in pitch darkness and the police were called to recover the vehicle as the AA deemed our position too dangerous.
The AA guy tipped me off that there have been a problem with the fuel injectors, and so when we finally got home at 1am I looked on-line to find this forum posting. The next day I was called by the garage who wanted to get the go ahead for the diagnostics test. I merely mentioned that I had heard there had been a problem with the fuel injectors, whereupon they told me they would look into it and if this was the case then they would call me to discuss some kind of reimbursement.
Today I was called to be informed that it was the injector, that all 4 plus loom had been replaced free of charge and that they would be happy to deliver it to me..
I didnt have to push the issue, I didn't have to contact VOSA or even the VW customer service people - it just happened.
Thank you so much to those of you who have highlighted the issue. Without you I would be 4000 pounds worse off.
But my question is, where has this got to with VOSA and why no product recall as yet? Surely it's only a matter of time before they have serious injury or death on their hands and a group action is called...
Helen
Glad you got it done and you are all safe Helen ;)
Good question.
My Passat is pushing 140,000 and the engine has effectively been faultless over that period, and for that reason - and also to avoid any possible strife with my local dealer, in view of the obvious shortcomings in VW's internal communications over the issue - I'd decided to wait for VW to initiate some sort of campaign/recall (or whatever) rather than setting the ball rolling myself.
A statement from VOSA on here in particular seemed to hint that it might take a little time to gear things up such that all effected cars could be sorted out - presumably only a very small proportion have had the work done yet - but when or if that will happen is anyone's guess.
But as I said previously, if it's such a serious issue that VW are replacing all injectors FOC then it's hugely unsatisfactory if only those in the know are having the work done, because I would imagine that the vast majority of affected owners are still totally in the dark over the issue.
Next time I need my dealer to do anything else I'll raise the issue with them, but I'll give it another few weeks before assuming that the owners who still haven't had the work done are just being ignored.
thought id post an intresting bit if info i obtained today directly from vw,i too own a b6 passat with the bkp engine and have researched numerous forums regarding the injector failure issue,my insider friend at vw then made me aware of the internal intrest at vw in the fault with the injectors and showed me an official workshop document dated the 27 sept 2011 referance number 2026885/4 reference injector replacement
listed on the document were possible customer statements
engine non start
engine warning lamp on
glow plug warning on
the document states that the injectors should be checked and if the part numbers are found to be the affected ones then all four injectors and the harness should be replaced ,also if the engine still fails to start then the engine ecu should be checked and if the productiion date is before 01.04.2008 then this should be replaced
the affected injector part numbers are as listed 03g 130 073 D and 03g 130 073 M the part numbers are to be found on the injector body
any body requiring further info can message me
I'm really quite pleased about the way this thread has gone :)
I just had my passat in the local dealer and they said it didn't need doing.
What is it?
