Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
Merci!
Just read on one of the French forums that someone here has had theirs replaced foc, thanks in large part to information I posted from this forum, and quoting the VOSA letter that I'd also posted. This on the same day that I had yet another letter from VW France saying there's not going to be a recall. However, I suppose that doesn't mean that they won't be paying for repairs. I'm still waiting for a reply from the CEO VW Germany - not holding my breath.
Might be good news for you too.
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
Crasher thanks ever so much, youre an absolute star mate! like i said its a long and horrible story but i'll just be happy to get up and running again.
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
Crasher my mechanic says a big thanks and he owes you a beer! Also i don't know if you can help me but theres one other piece of information we need to know. How would you go about setting the balance shaft to the correct setting? does the engine first need to be at 'top dead'? Mechanic has had the sump off to check for and remove any bits of debris and seeing as ive had 2 balance shafts fail on me,i asked him to check its condition while he was in the area.He suspects he may have set it back up wrong. He's an old school mechanic but i trust him. I have told him he needs to get himself a pc though! :D
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
What is he doing, setting it up for a new gear drive system? To set the balance shaft up you have to lock the crank at TDC using the usual setting plate (there are two, one for round pulley and one for oval) and then the balancer shaft assembly is locked in place using a small plate, VW tool T10255.
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
No, he had the sump off to check for any debris from the broken followers and while he was at it i asked him to check the condition of the drive pin on the oil pump as i've had 2 of them fail by rounding off before. He just asked me to try and find out the procedure to make sure he got it right so i'll ring him and tell him exactly what you said.big thanks once again mate.:beerchug:
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
Finally got mine done today, even though I contacted VW CS a few weeks ago. In this morning, got a brand new golf to run around in for the day, only had 11miles on the clock. Got the car back this afternoon and had a long run this evening. So much smoother and better power delivery. I'd say round 10-15% better fuel economy too.
Thanks to the forum, Jenny Boyd at VW CS and Mark and Isabel at VW Greenock for looking after me and the car. I'm a happy motorist again. Loving the Sat, and hopefully many years of happy, trouble free motoring to come.
Next stop some winter tyres. :)
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
After having my injectors replaced last week I got a follow-up call last night from David at VW Customer Services. He wanted to check that the work had been carried out, and that I was completely happy. He apologised for any inconvenience, and said to contact Customer Services again if I had any further problems.
A nice touch I thought.

Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
I spoke to VW Customer services a while back, what they said was my car should have the new injectors, i am going to ring them again though and double check.. If i book it in at the dealers, i am going to have to pay for the Diagnostics Check..???
Just checking how many of the 170 Sport BMR engine owners have had faulty injectors and if they have had theirs replaced?
My car is registered on 14/03/2008..
I believed that the new injectors were just recently made though..??
any help be appreciated before i call VW and the dealers
Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
Imizz
I don't know when the improved injectors were introduced, but my car is Nov 2006 reg (2007 Model Year) 170 Sport with the BMR engine, and my injectors (all original, no failures) were replaced FOC without any quibbles last week.

Re: Injector Failures - Possible recall
You shouldn't have to pay anything mate, that is down to VW if they don't know which injector they fitted to the car simply by ref of the chassis/engine numbers.
A few people I've told about this are getting a wall at VW CS, oh we don't know nothing about that etc, if you get this response e.mail John Fitch @ VOSA
John.Fitch@vosa.gsi.gov.uk
Be polite the man is very helpful and will advise you what to do next, and be patient for a reply as now I've posted the e.mail he might have a few to reply to, I suspect VW are gearing up a recall some time soon but need to have enough replacements available to meet demand, hence the stall tactics.
Don't have a row in the dealer, they can do nothing until you get a case number, it's not their fault.
Imz, open your bonnet and look at the engine cover, if you have diagonal moldings it's a CR and NOT one of the bad ones, if you have straight moldings with black square shapes then it's deffo a PD and probably needs seeing to, hth.
