Thanks Andy will do, the fact that its running a lot when driving is that normal ?

Hi,
Checked it this morning it is loose and even when held in place its still very noisy and takes 50 secs to raise from 1 setting to another.
Thanks
Hi Marshall, when you say loose, it is supposed to be free to bounce around like crazy on those springs, it should not be held stiff, bit it shouldn't touch any or the cars body or other parts, is the noise purely from the compressor and not it hitting against anything?
Regards
Andy
This sounds very similar to my problem.
My suspension system all works and I can get the system to lift from level 1 to 4 without problem. I have no sag and the car sits on the level so nearly all good. The problem is the noise which I get usually 2 minutes approx into all journeys when the compressor starts up. It makes an absolute din for maybe 30 seconds and then usually stops. Periodically it will be make a noise more often but generally its once per trip.
I have removed the compressor, fitted Andys kit and this changed to type of noise the unit was making however it still makes a din. (This makes me think its a problem with the compressor)
I have checked to see if the unit is banging on any bodywork of the car and really don't think it is this.
I have checked that the unit can move freely on its mounts which it does without touching any bodywork.
I have removed the compressor again to look at the rivets of end plate and they look fine.
I am considering replacement of the compressor but really want to know if this is the real issue to the noise.
Any pointers chaps?
Regards
Russell
Hi Russell, if you are 100% sure the compressor is not hitting the car body when running then it must have a bearing gone which is not that common, watch it when it runs just to double check,
I have new compressors if you need one send me a PM for more info,
best regards

Andy... you are the king of the compressor pump... it worked like 100% first time.. .
2 weekends ago I purchased a late 2005 allroad A6 2.5tdi with lights all over the dash and the rear suspension was at the stops... drove it from Liverpool to London like that and I think I need my spinal fluid changed now... Finished refurbishing the compressor with your kit just now and it lifted the rear end and works perfectly. I have done a full service and I now have a working car that has cost in total £2000. A new compressor would have added £500 probably so I am super happy Andy. I have yet to do the basic settings with VCDS and possibly a cam belt change soon.
Thank you soo much
Hi, I'm glad you liked it, all in all a good result.
The test for your car now is park it at level 1 overnight, it should not sink, if it does sink come back to me and I can help with airbags too ;)
sold over 6000 compressor repair kits now, I also have brand new cylinders for these compressors too,
Best regards
Andy
Just a quick note though... I removed the pressure release value on the compressor and found it full of gunge so I cleaned it all up and re-assembled (just needs and allen key and some force, has 2 springs). I also removed corrosion from the connectors and sprayed contact cleaner till clean. The connector where the plastic return hose connects would not release easily even with collar pressed in. This was because of corrosion and gunk not allowing travel downwards so I removed the white collar and scrapped out the buildup and replaced the collar. I also cleaned the inside of the intake hoses since they had a film of black dirt on them even though the filter is in place. I can just about hear the compressor after the repair and it lifts in super time. I also have an A8 D3 that takes a bit longer to raise so might have to refurb that in a year or so.
Hey Andy,
So the suspension stays up if I leave overnight on 2,3 or 4, but if I leave at 1 the rear will be at the stops in the morning but the front is fine. That does not make sense right what could that be?
Also, being an allroad newbie I was wondering what the setting should on for normal driving? and how to put it into automatic mode. Also I notice that the rear bounces a bit over a speed bump, is that normal for allroads or is there something else wrong like shocks, ( I thought they were air as well)
Thank you in advance :-)
That is 100% an airbladder leak,
They only leak at low levels due to the perished rubber bending around the lower fold, but lift the car up and the perrished rubber muces up to the flatter part and the cracks close and the leak stops.
Replace the airbladder,
Best regards
Andy
