My power loss was due to faulty impulse sensor, diagnostics machine was able to determine this after resetting the computer. May need to take it to a specialist instead of doing it yourself.
Many little sensors and things in these cars, could also be the oxygen sensor. Only going by what I have been told by VW mechanics.
This is my first post & unsure how to make new posts. My problem is with my 2000 mark 4 1.9 TDI 90 Bhp Golf 233,000 miles. I have it from new . The past number of months it looses power at about 2500 revs or over 70mph. He diagnosed the problem as boost pressure positive deviation. He said I have a cracked turbo intercooler which is causing an oil leak that is visible on the front bumper. My mechanic said that eventhough this needs replaced he does not think it is the cause of the power loss. He thinks power loss is due to the waste gate of the turbo sticking. I know this issue has been discussed before. No warning lights appear on the dash. What do you think would be the solution?
There are two quite distinctly different types of Golf 4 TDI 90, the AGR and the ALH so we need to know which one. The fault code number your chap recovered would be handy but it sounds like 17965.
You have an AGR engine then. This has a simple flap valve boost control and is not prone to the problems other TDI engines have. An overboost code is normally due to a vacuum leak which prevents the N75 valve opening the valve fast enough. In the early days of this engine we used to see this a lot where holes had been made in the feed hose to delay the opening of the flap to produce more power. This was often done by people who had worked on cars like the R5 turbo and Escorts where they did not have boost checking like the AGR engine has. First of all, the vacuum pipes should all be replaced.

Fantastic Crasher,
I will run this info by my mechanic & hopefully he will successfully replace all vacumn pipes. Should these vacumn pipes be bought from VW or would the average car parts supplier stock them?
Will keep you posted.

Nay good quality 3 and 3.2-mm ID vac hose is fine, I use black silicon.
