Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Just making the point that not everything on ebay is hooky...yes invariably overpriced in most cases of 'buy it now' and if an auction it usually goes for the same price as a new one!
Occassionally 'used genuine' come up for sale but think since they will have been registered I believe that support is chargeable.

Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Unfortunately all is not well :(
Was coming home the other day when she started shuddering very badly at idle (stopped at traffic lights), some white smoke coming from the back and noticeably down on power.
This was after 2/3 days of alternating between a flashing yellow glow plug light, and a constant yellow engine management light.
She's been in with the garage I bought her from the last few days and they say they cleaned out the EGR which was apparently full of gunk and handed it back to me today.
However I didn't even get out of the office car park before the same initial symptoms returned - flashing yellow glow plug/constant yellow engine light but for now she's still driving ok.
Interestingly the glow plug light disappears when you put it into D(rive) and comes back when you shift back to P(ark). The engine management light stays on constantly.
I've hooked it up to VCDS and run a full scan - see attached. Anyone have any ideas what I'm looking at from this? To be fair to the garage they're saying they'll do whatever to fix it or are even offering me my money/Passat back but it's extremely hard to find an A6 with this spec here in Ireland so I'd hate to have to go down that road.
Any help very much appreciated before I give it back to them tomorrow for more "tests"

Could you erase all fault codes and rescan as there are a few old ones in there.

You can test the J724 actuation by running 'output test' in module 01 via VCDS ...

Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Thanks a mil gupsterg - I cleared the faults last night and so far she's still running grand and none have shown up.
However, I've booked it into Audi as well on Monday for a 2nd opinion and a report as I'm not confident in the (independent) dealer's mechanic (the guy is selling premium cars and using a fella who's working out of his driveway)
so would rather get it fully checked and hand him a list of things to do and then follow-up after to make sure it's done .. especially as they had the car several days and from what I can see did very little!
I therefore wasn't keen to hand it back to him today for who knows how long while they have another go at figuring out what's happening.
Option B would be to accept the reversal of the deal.. I get the Passat back and what I paid, but I've already sunk a few hundred into this car in motor tax and getting the windows tinted as the heat was not
good for little passengers :( Plus the spec is very hard to come by and it may be something simple-ish!
So the plan is, drive it and keep an eye on it over the weekend, get it checked out properly and then if the seller still can't fix it after this, accept the refund and keep looking

Hi ya mate :) ...
I'm not gonna go over what I think about the early V6 in the context of used car as I posted that before ...
If you're hanging on to car because of spec don't IMO ... I did that :( ... My spec is here Link:- Attachment 21110
I paid £10K for it in Aug 11 with 70K miles FASH 55 plate (2005) an Avant (usually dearer than a saloon), so comparison would be 57 now ...
In my view all you have above std SE spec is 3 spoke steering wheel, sunroof, MMI High/phone prep which is option 'Comms.Pack 2' on page 32 and 'Luxury pack' page 33 ... Link:- http://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/au...0Sept%2006.pdf
Where I am with mine I wish I'd listened to the sensible side of me before I started ploughing money into car ... if I'd sold it within a few months of owning it I would have saved myself a lot of aggro & £££ ...
I hope above not come across in the wrong way :o ... if you want I can guide you how to check state of injectors, EGR, etc, etc via VCDS perhaps this will help you know if you should keep it or not ...
What mileage is car? how much did you pay?
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
Gup just remember a ROI spec car will differ compared to a UK spec car unless it was imported ;)
The ROI gets some weird and wonderful spec levels, some cars you even have to pay for an alarm and other basic things we in the UK get as standard.

Hey mate,
Don't worry.. I appreciate all the advice and opinions - even though it may not always be what I want to hear so feel free to be as honest as ya like :)
I fully intend that if this car becomes a sinkhole (at least I have a warranty to cover the main bits for the next few months) then I'll just be taking my Passat and the cash I paid back and moving on - I've made that mistake before too. The spec IS rare here in the south though because the Irish as a rule are more obsessed about the year on the reg plate than the rest of the car - here you can't miss it as it's formatted YEAR - COUNTY - NUMBER (eg: 05-D-12345). We also love "cheap tax" which this does NOT have (don't ask how much it costs annually :() and as a result anything above a 1.9 TDI is considered "big". Also anything above 100,000 miles is considered "high mileage" and virtually unsellable.
As a result I looked at several of these which had things like paddle shift but cloth seats, leather with basic MMI/no MFSW etc - put it this way, out of the dozen or so I checked out this was the highest spec level. The closest was a 2004 model which had everything but the sunroof (but did have xenons which mine doesn't) but was lit up like a christmas tree with faults.
This one has a full dealer history, came back clean on our version of a HPI check and has 100,000 miles (160k km) on it. My Passat was a 2.0 TDI DSG model - Comfortline/SE? spec and 243,000km (150,000 miles) so because of the Irish obsession with low tax + low miles it was effectively becoming worthless albeit still running well. With trade-in I paid just over €3500 (euros) which all things considered isn't bad when the Passat was valued at about 4k :(
But yes, I'd very much appreciate any guidance you can offer because these issues aside it's a lovely car and if it can be sorted properly and by the dealer I really want to keep it. :)
Re: New A6 Owner - Newbie Questions :)
On an unrelated point to all the woes above :)
I got a replacement rubber button strip for the key fob as the original is very worn.
How do I take the key apart to change it? I'm assuming it won't forget its coding or whatever if the battery comes loose too as I only have the 1 key for now..
