Just had a Witter flange detachable fitted to my mk5 golf. Might be of interest to people who want to use a bike rack and a trailer at the same time. Just got to watch the nose weight. From what I can see when buying a towbar mounted bike rack, there seem to be more available for the flange fitting. I haven't seen one of these posted on this discussion so thought I'd throw it into the mix.

A very nice option for a detachable towbar and as you say, very flexible on allowing a choice of bike racks.

Hi ,going to fit towbar and wiring tomorrow to mk5 gttdi 2005 , i just need to clear up which colour wire to connect the fog, reverse and brake to , reading through this thread there seems to be conflicting ideas ,
i think ive come to the conclusion that : L/H indicator - whi/blk
R/H indicator -blk/grn
L/H tail--gry/blk
R/h tail- gry/yel
but am i right in saying that i dont connect the tail light signals to the relay because they use the same wire as the brake ?? If so do i then just use one of these, say the gry /blk to the red wire of the relay to signal the brake light ???

Sorry I cant remember the colours, but I do remember it being confusing until I started and then it was easy. My side lights light up on my caravan when I brake, this is not a problem, someone said its something to do with the type of wiring on the Golf feeding back. Been ok for years now.

Does anyone have a photo of the Westfalia Fixed Swan neck P/N 321811600001 that doesn't require any bumper cuts.
I'm concerned that there's no enough clearance - if anyone has a specific photo for the mk5 that' be great thanks. Photo of why im concerned really doesn't look like enough room!

Re: Golf Mk5 Tow Bars - Q&A - All you need to know Guide!! Advice, Tips...
im in the process of fitting the wiring but dont have a 12v socket in the boot of my MK5 tdi.
Anyone able to suggest a source without having to run a cable from the front?
Re: Golf Mk5 Tow Bars - Q&A - All you need to know Guide!! Advice, Tips...
Fitting a power supply from the front is very easy and only involves the removal of the rear seat at worst.
Use an "add-a-fuse" to tap the power from the fuse box on the side of the dash drop the wire down the under the trim, run it along the sill trim tucking it under as you go, up under the trim under the rear seat and you are there and you will end up with a power supply with its own dedicated fuse in easy reach for replacement if necessary. Use the right guage of wire and the correct fuse size.

you mean splice an existing wire from the fuse box at the end of the dash or take a new fed from the external fusebox in the engine bay?
Re: Golf Mk5 Tow Bars - Q&A - All you need to know Guide!! Advice, Tips...
and if its taking a new feed from the main fuse box, what route can the wire take to get into the cabin from the engine bay? cheers
