That paints a wonderful picture.
Quite outstanding. Especially for a Norwegian... ;)

He,He, now imaging my face squeezed against the vindshield, then the ECU decides to fuel again and I,m beeing pushed back in the seat...and the tranny have 5 gears...:D
Another strange thing ( no, not thinking about Phutters far too good imagination :D) is that when the FIS believes the fuel consumption is 10.5 L / 100 km, the real consumption is around 8-8.5 L / 100 km !!! Soo it looks
like the engine isn't receiving the fuel the ECU believes ...
Can you try logging blocks 3,8 and 11 while going through the steering-wheel-hanging-event ? This will show if it is the ECU cutting fuel or air, and why. If yo udo, post the file :)
Also, regarding the barking, are the nozzles the right PN for the ECU? Nozzle hole diameter differ on some V6's. Sorry if you already had replied to this.
Maybe you can ask Ulinux to take a look at your ECU file, who knows if it has been messed before you bought the car?
Hi!
Sorry to disturb this very interesting thread. Since it's almost on-topic, I have one question. What are the symptoms of worn out injectors? Is it just poor performance?
When logging block 13 and 14 I have between -1,80 and -0,16 on the different cylinders. This is obviously out of spec, but should it be very noticeably?
Thanks.
No, no not disturbing. I dont think the performance is the thing you'll notice the most, but the sound of the engine become rougher, especiall when cold. I,ve sure you've heard the old 1 million mile Merc, all sounding like a bag of marbels.
But if you gave them a set of new nozzles , the engine was totally transformed !
That's why I ignored the VCDS readings and vent directly to Ebay looking for new nozzles for the Audi, ending up with completly new injectors "kellerfund" ;)
Last thing first. Don't think looking at the ECU files would be much help, because I have 2 different ECU's doeing exactly the same thing.
The nozzles are probably NOT right for the ECU, the problem is that with the old, correct nozzles, the bark was a lot worse ! The injectors was bought on German ebay as a so called "kellerfund" meaning the seller don't know
exactly what he's selling, meaning I don't know what I have in the car :biglaugh:. Genious ? And since I was stupid and just assumed the nozzles was right instead of open an injector and check ......Well, can't cure stupidity, can you ...
First thing last then. Have checked and the ECU is cutting fuel and air, don't remember if it was only actual air due to the fuel cut or not.
The biggest problem however, is that I,m spending my time
renovating a house, and when that is done I have a motorhome and my daily drive in strong need of attention !:D So not much time for the old Audi I'm afraid ...
Hmm. As you know, I've had loads of issues with my car. After last turbo change everything has been good. I seem to remember that the performance was better, but not a big deal.
The problem is that as the engine gets warm (and this is also dependent on outside temperature - in winter it's not much of a problem) I get a lot less performance, especially at low rpm. At high rpm it seems ok, at least better.
I had these problems a couple of years ago, but then I felt that it got fixed when I replaced the return fuel lines from the injectors. They were sweating a lot! After this change I thought "There I fixed it!" (even though I found it curious that it would help). But now it's back. Either I just imagined that the problem was gone. Perhaps it coincided with a change in outside temperature (altough I seem to remember it was in the middle of summer...) or maybe I'm just crazy.
Anyway, it's started to be more noisy (especially when cold...) - even though the timing seems perfect.
My theory is as follows (and I'm sure you will break it down :)):
As the engine warms up, it's getting less fuel from the ECU (?). My worn out injectors doesn't cope well with that, and performance is terrible. When cold or at high rpm the amount of fuel is higher, and the injectors isn't that much of a problem. Ok, this made more sense in my head than in writing...
Anyway, the main problem is performance getting quite awful after 20-40 minutes (and also depending on outside temperature). If I lock it in 2nd or 3rd gear, it feels normal, but 4th and 5th is incredibly sluggish. As a sidenote, a friend sent me a sms the other day and asked me about a problem he had with his 2,5tdi. He said that when warm, the sound changed and performance got worse... I just told him "good luck with that!" :P He has an AKE, while I have AFB.
I can't think of much else than the injectors, really... The car has almost 300 000 km, lots of very short drives (very healthy, I know), so it kind of makes sense if the injectors are worn out. I'm just curious if they could cause my problem...
Btw, quite a long time since there was anything seriously wrong with my car now. Hooray! ;)
Two more things, btw, which may or may not make sense.
I also have the problem ametlib is describing, that sometimes it toally cuts fuel (or air or both, haven't gotten it on log yet). Altough I've never found my head in the windshield, so it's not as bad as with him ;) It usually happens when I'm (trying to) accelerate hard after driving peacefully for a while. Often combined with a gear shift (tiptronic), but not always, I think.
Second thing is weirder (and harder to explain). When my wife bought a brand new A1, I was baffled how quiet it stops. I'm used to my A6 making a shudder. I know about that "anti shudder valve" in the inlet - and it's actually working. I thought it was supposed to shudder anyways - the valve was there just to stop a run-away engine. But sometimes - usually when performance feels good - it does not shudder. This is maybe just 5% of the times, and always after a very short drive (so the engine is not very warm). I even tried (for test...) to drive without the anti-shudder valve connected, and the excact same thing happens. 95% of the times I get a shudder, and 5% of the times it stops totally quiet. With my reasoning this is because the injectors when warm enough "leaks" a few drops of fuel when you stop it. But I kind of suspect that this does not make sense either.
Such power surges may come from egr closing lazy. Try to do a ride with closed egr, just remove the small hose from the egr valve and put a screw in the hose. Also bad temperature sensor (left from injection pump when you stand before the open bonnet) may cause such a behaviour. This sensor is a couple of sensors in one assembly. One is used for ecu and the other one for instrument cluster. So if ecu sensor fails you still will see correct temperature in cluster,Žbut ecu may see -40 degrees.
