Im still puzzled as to if the 19 inch alloys will fit my car...My fear is that i will buy them and when they are fitted they will rub on a full lock on the front and also rub on the rear if i hav passengers in the back of my car.
Is it possible to get my arches rolled to stop this should it happen?

Yes they will fit with 225/35 19 tyres but they may rub at the front on lock. Rubbing at the rear is unlikely if the rear bump stops are in good condition. Front rubbing cannot be dealt with by arch rolling at it is usually inner arch rubbing and the only cure is a reduced lock steering rack that costs around £500 plus fitting.
Whatever you fit you need to have a section width of no more than 225-mm which keeps rubbing worries to the minimum and keep the rolling radius to around 320-mm so that is;
15” = 195/65 at 317-mm
16” = 205/55 at 316-mm
17” = 225/45 at 317-mm
18” = 225/40 at 318-mm
19” = 225/35 at 320-mm
20” = 225/30 at 321-mm
All these rolling radii are approximate as all tyres vary but all these sizes exist.
Personally I would suggest you stick to an 18” as the best all round set up and even these cause problems. For one, the bigger the wheel the heavier the overall set up becomes so the ride suffers and the dampers struggle to cope with the unsprung weight so the rear of the car can feel very heavy and thud prone plus even 18’s are very easy to damage on our appalling roads. On our V6 4-M we have had to replace all the 18’s in the space of two years as they were more like a 50 pence piece than a circle. On my VRS I have 7x17’s with 225/45 17’s but I will be going to 8x18’s with 225/40’s later.

The information you have provided has helped me no end...Although the 19's offered to me are a bargain I may now opt for some 18's as i dont want the quality of the ride to suffer which it sounds like it will with 19 inch rims...
Also though i may add ive been told that if i get 17 or 18 inch rims it would look better to drop the car 30-40mm...do u kno what benefits this brings or is it just a better visual appearance?

Lowering your car 35-mm on a Vogtland kit (hint hint :D ) would make it look visually much better, a standard ride height Golf 4 on 18’s can look a little odd. However, lowering the car will make the likelihood of front inner arch rubbing more of a problem BUT in most cases people get away with it.
