Re: new to audi's need help!!!, please
Yes definitely rich when warming and mine seems to take an age to warm up, sometimes it never reaches 80 if it's particularly cold but we're talking between 16 and 21 mile journeys. Looking at it from the outside 28.2 is pretty good for a heavy AWD car turning through an auto box and 3 difs but considering what it actually gets on the motorway it could probably do even better, and that is driving with a foot like a feather. 'stat is on the list of jobs because I dont know if and when it was last changed, it had a rad changed at 3 years old when the original expired but I don't think it has been done for a while, unless Audi do it with the cambelt although that doesn't guarantee it works fine now...
Re: new to audi's need help!!!, please
Yep, thermostat gone. This will be reducing your MPG
It should take 6 - 7 miles to warm up in the morning, and then the stat should stay between 85 - 90 degrees, and not move above this unless the engine has been switched off, when it will rise a little.
Oil temp should match it
Stat costs about £10 from GSF.
To change it however, you need to remove bumper, slide front end and rads forward into service mode, remove tensioner, and cam belt covers.
Slide cam belt 1/2 of pulleys and then locate and change the stat that is in the middle of the 'V'
Did mine a while ago, and it took 3 hours allowing for cups of tea etc.
Noticed an instant improvement in MPG, My A6 auto was showing 22.4 in traffic round town, now it's 25.6
If I go on a run, then it goes up to 30 ish.

Re: new to audi's need help!!!, please
Did the CV joints actually fix your knocking noise??? Was it a like CLUNK noise when you cranked over the wheel from side to side????. If not that id say the Tie rod bushings which are probably worth 15 for polyurethane ones but a headache to change.....if thats what you need to do just buy the whole bushing kit and do the entire car fresh tight bushings make a load of difference on a sloppy driving car.
Re: new to audi's need help!!!, please
if you PM me your e-mail address, I will send you some details over from the manual

Re: new to audi's need help!!!, please
Trivial information: If you've already got the changer in there you can get an adaptor for the lead that'll plug into an mp3 player, this'll also give you basic volume control.
Also check the power steering fluid, if it looks red or brown, get it flushed and replaced with the mineral stuff. I learnt this too late after getting my second hand audi, and it may now need a new power steering rack because of it.
