Who is the modern Audi owner?

I think Audi and VW still stands for a certain level of class and quality without being brazen in anyway, most people who own or drive audi's tend to be proffesional with an understanding of what makes those car's so appealing. I'd certainly have one without a 2nd thought (probably an A3 or A4 TDI) if I did want to sell up and move onto something modern or needed a company car and I'm currently considering having an old quattro for wafting about in ;)

I think it depends on the model & marque as to whom the typical driver tends to be. On the whole younger drivers tend only to be able to afford an early model A3 (or an A4 B5 if they want to be different!) which 70%'ish of these on the road will be owned by. A4 B6's tend to be mid-late 20-somethings that are earning enough to push the boat out and get a really good car and not be branded a c*@k by buying a 3-series BMW!! The other A4 B6 owners will probably then be family's wanting an excellent value reliable family car that will last a long time, it probably also will be a diesel! A4 B7's & latest model A3's will probably mostly be company car drivers with the remainder private owners who have upgraded from an earlier marque Audi's who have got a bit older perhaps & almost certainly have a little more money available to spend on a car. RS models, A6's, A8's, Q7's & R8's will be either rich people and/or company directors flexing their wallet. TT owners could be anybody really, it takes all sorts to want one!!

Sorry if you dont fit one of my categories as above, am being a little general of course! Trouble with having watched 16 episodes of Bones in the past couple of days is you start thinking analytically about stuff!!!

I guess i fall into this then.. Im 26 and Drive a A4 - B6 which has my private plate on it..

When I was looking for a new car, I toyed with the idea of getting a personal lease on a new Audi A3 1.9 TDi Sports Special Edition. Found a leasing company that was doing a 48 month deal on one of these based on 20K annual mileage: £900 deposit, 47 installments of £248 (incl. VAT, and roadtax). Might seem a fair bit of money to some people but as far as I'm aware off, about £250 per month is what most people pay nowaday for a new or even 2nd hand car on finance... I bought my first car in the UK in 2001 and paid £7500 for a 2 year old Rover 400 2.0 TDi with 20K miles on it. My finance repayments were £256 per mont for the next 4 years. When I had the car for 3 years and it had 90K miles, I had to throw it away because the diesel timing pump was gone. I've been lucky to find someone who was still willing to pay £450 for it. Drove around with a 17 year old Toyota Celica for the next year while I was still paying of the finance on my Rover...

Say what you want, but comapared to that, the leasing price for the A3 was a damn right bargain. I was really really reeeeaaaaaaaally tempted. Only reason I didn't go for it is because I'm (trying) to save up for a property.

That's the problem, they are lease or company cars in many cases. How many people have cash to spend on a £25k Audi brand new. I'm sure most of us could afford to do so, but, I'd rather have money for holidays etc.

My first Audi was 10 years ago. I'm 35 soon and the car is ideal for me. The A4 is solid and will shift when I want it too.

For me, there are too many blinged up Audis about these days. Body kits and and 19-20" alloys! They just look as though they are trying to be in your face. I look understated cars which Audi produce out of the box.

I've had my 2001 for 3 years and have owned it outright for well over 1 year! It costs me £345 fully comp with £145 TAX!!! Cheap!

I was interested to see someone put the Saab in the same sentance as the Audi.

I have gone from a 3 series BMW to a Saab 93 now a Audi a3.

The Saab cost me thousands in repairs in just a few years and was nothing but trouble. It handled like a boat and was underpowered.

The Audi is a dream to drive and seems so much better engineered.

You only have to look at two things that speak volumes about Saabs.

1. The amount of extras that you get compared to a like for like Audi
2. The amount of money lost after 3 years compared to an Audi

Take for example a new Saab 9-3 Vector Sport 1.9 TTid at £26,495 and a an A4 2.0 TDi S-Line at £26,530

Over the Audi the Saab has:

Leather
Built in Handsfree Mobile Phone Preperation
CD Changer
Split Fold Rear Seats
Cruise Control

Yet the Saab will be worth £9273 after three years and the Audi will be worth £10612.

Even my A3 will be worth £9972 after three years and it costs £4815 LESS than the Saab.

Twin Turbos or not, no thank you, I'll have the A3

im 28, im a contract aircraft systems design engineer, im living with partner with a daughter in dorset. i havent got it yet, but i will (this year sometime) own an A4 b6 cab (do they call that the A4 b6 8H? or just A4 8H?) so nickynibbles has me perfectly pigeonholed lol

...anyway i love audis, not a fan of beemers (or their image) i like saabs, but for me, something has gone from their image since they became vauxhalls in party hats. i used to own a g plate saab 900 2.0i, which was a bit tractor-like, but was cheap and reliable.
