Just thinking about it, would it be better to connect car to phone hotspot?
Technically it can, then redirects to Cubic's Data Inside landing page, to tell me 'either I didn't purchase any data-plan or my SIM is not registered' and insist me to do either. So, it doesn't actually connect.
What about others - I take it you guys don't see/get that 'no connection to vehicle' thing?
Sorry for responding to a very old thread. I got my SQ7 last week, I was also having the same error until last night. Basically you need to purchase data plan from Cubic Telecom if your car is supplied with a data module or you need to put a data SIM in the car. I purchased 2 GB for 30 days just to test it out, not sure if it is of much use so probably will not renew it.
Hope this helps
I've ordered an SQ7 as well...
I'm bloody well hopeful that it'll come with a sim card working already to go for the price...
I've found the price plans online... That's extreme!
365 Days 25 GB 132.00 £
You don't really need the data plan. It's just if you want to stream internet radio and play tracks via wifi. Not sure how it is different to Bluetooth though. I bought 2GB for £13 valid for 30 days only to test it out. The data module built in to car with free access does give you weather, traffic POI and Google maps etc.
Another quick advice make sure that your dealer verify your email and other details before the delivery it too me nearly 10 days to sort this out and that too after help from a very helpful Audi dealer in USA through another forum.
Enjoy the new car when you get it :-)
Ah ok, I'm not really interested in that. I have a 60GB data plan on my phone and will bluetooth stream to the car via that.
So long as I can use the MMI connect app I will be happy :D
I can't wait to get it now, My partner ordered a new car yesterday, comes in 5 weeks... Now I just want mine!
It’s useful to send nav destination points to the car directly - either via google maps directly or a share via MMI app. So when you get in car you just look up MyAudi destinations and stuff is there. And the google satellite imagery for when you don’t have phone on you / plugged in etc. I’ve not got embedded SIM just my own on cheap Three PAYG data.
Q7 MY16 272PS S-Line Tech/Tour/Trailer packs, orca black, 21 inch 9.5J rims, rotor grey leather, sunroof, BOSE, ambient lighting, reversing cam, drivers memory seat. Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.
Yes it is but that feature works without paying for data, I was told that in the 2017 onward Q7 and SQ7 a data module is built in which let you get news, weather, POI updates etc.
Couple of questions though when I send an address via MMI app it's visible under myAudi contacts rather then myAudi destinations.
Secondly what's your experience with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, is it worth it? My car is non metallic black (Midnight black)
I take it the Bluetooth data connection didn't work like it did in the older gen (4L)Q7's then???.. Had tried for ages..
Recently Audi Query told me this:
"Wifi Data Sharing hot-spot SIM * on MMI 3G+ Connect versions - basically found out that on the new audis it's law??? (UK law? wasn't clarified) that we can no longer share our unlimited data in the car Wifi via 'BLUETOOTH' as we did in the last Q7, a dedicated SIM module is required (as in the glove box) there is no way to change the SIM to your phones when connected via Bluetooth, it's greyed out to the Audi Connect SIM. It's a bit ridiculous, unless one inserted into the glove box and it doesn't need to be from cubic telecom.
Any SIM data only or normal minimum 2GB pm, I have been quoted (£11 for 20GB) if call Three as an existing customer. But going to hold out as this RAVPower FileHub Plus, Wireless Travel Router, SD Card USB Reader, 6000mAh External Battery Instruction Manuals & Drivers Downloads - File Hub Plus via my own unlimited data SIM to circumvent the captive portal message that redirects to the 'Cubic Page' to buy a plan, which only makes sense for frequent Europe travellers with the car.
Conclusion by Germany trained Audi Connect rep was to buy another dedicated SIM for the car even if you have unlimited data (30GB/pm hot-spot in my case) via my phone.
You are not allowed to used it in the car via the on board WiFi system when connected to the car via BLUETOOTH!! , go figure
Do let us know if your findings and experience is the same.
Thanks
