Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
Best vacuum I could get was my lungs lol, seemed ok.
I was planning to try the n75 from my mates audi avant but it's mounted in a different position. Will need to go back and try in daylight.
When started it seems to drive ok untill 2600-3000 rpm then it goes into limp mode. There is the odd time in 1st and second gear it's fine upto 4000 rpm.
It doesnt stay in limp mode, when it's started again it's ok again reaches about around 3000rpm
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
The correct method would be to check the operation of the turbo vane actuator with the engine running using VCDS in Basic Settings 04, group 011. The lever should lift up and drop down about every 10 seconds and the idle will be at about 1200 rpm. You need to see the boost value chnage on the screen by around 300mBar.

Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
how much play should be on the turbo spline? noticed today there was a fair bit pulling towards me
think the turbo just blew??
was driving, then the it just reved high for a few secs and died.. smoke everywhere and some soot on the road... it started but not as quick and drives like its in limp mode all the time
doesnt sound good right?
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
no forward / back movement. a little up down left right is ok, a mm or so, but no back / forwards.
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
Roger that...
there quite abit of play pulling and pushing...
ill try get it plugged in soon and see what's what.
how much are turbos? Really didn't expect it to be the turbo , only done 90k
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
i only use turbo technics myself, usually in the 3-400 area..
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
Bloody seek, spent ages today checking the pipes, 12v to the n75 then cleaning the asv as there was loads of oily crap, the butter fly flap didn't fully close..
Next on the list was the pipe that connects to the intercooler, even though it has the metal clip it opens alittle when moving it. Noticed after the high revs etc oil dripping from it#
edit: some pictures from earlier...

Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
whats the chances of engine being ******? not sure if it was classed as a runaway, was close..
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
started the Passat this morning, took a extra turn to start when cold, when warm starts like it did before...
when idle the needle does move alittle at times, it revs but like its in limp mode all the time. can hear the turbo alittle when reving and when easing off throttle an hear it wooing..
plugged in vcds lite, cleared the codes and the same one as before returned, nothing new.
considering buying a second hand turbo, to see if that does the trick.. instead of buying a new one at £300 incase the engine is damaged
edit: it does put out white smoke when idle
Re: power loss, possible turbo vanes?
Hey Joe (...good track that Mr Hendrix), that's all normal ****, you ain't showing me, Zolly or anyone else some filth and gunge we aren't up to our testicles in every working day. The upset your engine went through is because the turbo over sped because it is out of control, how about doing the job properly before throwing cash at it! Anyway, you can get your turbo rebuilt for £250 as long as you over speeding the poor sodding thing has't FUBARED it!
