Re: 2.0 Tdi BRD white/blue smoke, stem seals?
incidentally, you can identify a car with leaky stem seals if you drive behind it. every gear change produces a puff of smoke and accelerating off a roundabout (after slowing down, off throttle) produces a big puff of smoke. this applies to petrol cars, usually old bl mini,s or maxi's.

That is approx 0.5 litres in 3000 miles or 4800km so circa 1 litre per 10,000 Km's. The OFFICIAL VAG max oil consumption allowed figure is 1 litre per 1000km so your oil consumption is 10% of what it has to be before VAG would recommend doing anything about it.
Re: 2.0 Tdi BRD white/blue smoke, stem seals?
I'll get the mechanic to get exhaust off to check turbo on compressor side
It's been pressure tested so wouldn't that rule out rings
would you recommend leaving it then since its under the max oil consumption?
Re: 2.0 Tdi BRD white/blue smoke, stem seals?
no, you cannot rule out rings by a compression test. the oil scraper ring has nothing to do with compression. where abouts in the world are you, sounds like your mechanic is some sort of bush mechanic. don't want to sound rude but all the things you have been told are very basic things that he should already know.
Re: 2.0 Tdi BRD white/blue smoke, stem seals?
That was just me asking, anyway i've had the rocker cover breather pipe changed as apparently that was blocked, had to get a complete rocker cover as you can't get the breather pipe separate from tps apparently
Drove it for 300 miles or so to allow the oil to burn off but still the same, wet oil in the exhaust and smokes with a strong smell till it exhaust warms up at which point theres no smoke but the strong smell remains
Whatd you think it could be?, turbo or oil scraper rings?, And how can you check the oil scraper rings or whatever they're called?
Re: 2.0 Tdi BRD white/blue smoke, stem seals?
You can only check the piston oil rings (the third ring) by removing the piston and at that point you may as well de-glaze the bores and re-ring anyway. I find it extremely difficult to suspect the engine and I would have the turbo rebuilt first.
Re: 2.0 Tdi BRD white/blue smoke, stem seals?
Hello, it's going back into the garage tomorrow as its still got excessive oil in exhaust after rocker cover breather was changed, btw the new rocker cover as a pin hole, it's not broken thats the design but once engine started it has air coming out of it with quite a bit of pressure, is this normal?? Im assuming the old one was blocked so didn't so this, i havn't asked my mechanic about this yet but will tell him tomorrow...Also do you think the return oil feed for the turbo could be blocked?, as the breather cover was blocked, egr was fully blocked, manifold had a **** load of crap on it as well which has been cleaned out now...just wanting to know my options as i don't want to fork out for a new turbo just yet since theres no lag or lack of power throughout the entire rev range, it's just the oil getting into the exhaust driving me crazy as i don't want the dpf or cat getting knackered as a result, i havn't spoken to the mechanic yet he wants to have a look at it again before he tells me but im just after your guys opinions
