Mechanics leaving tools and bits and pieces in cars ? Why not, when even surgeons leave tools inside after operations......now I am thinking about the 10 MM socked I found under the passenger seat in my A6 when cleaning it out........ what was it being used for in the first place ????
Re: Can anyone identify this part that fell off my GTD?
Thanks everyone for help with this.
As an update and to close this out..
I took the car to the dealer yesterday. Initially I was told they couldn't look at the car due to being fully booked. After some 'discussion' with them and me having them call another local dealer on my behalf to see if they could help (which I think they found embarrassing) they suddenly found the time to have a mechanic take a look.
Half an hour later I was told it was all fixed and that it was indeed a secondary coolant pump bracket. The mechanic had no explanation as to how the bracket had worked its way loose with a bolt untightening and falling out.. but mentioned he'd put a new bolt in and used locktight on it so hopefully that will prevent this happeneing again (if indeed it had untightened in the first place.. who really knows)
I just hope nothing else falls off this car now.. not the best introduction to VW ownership really.

We are all human, well, some of us-not sure about those from......

As long as that remains your worst experience with this car......it will be the best car you have ever had !!! ;)
Re: Can anyone identify this part that fell off my GTD?
It is a sway bar support bracket (anti roll bar) It should have a bolt to hold it in place:confused:

I'm new on here and have found the site after googling for the past hour in a desperate effort to try and identify a part that literally fell off my 2013 Golf GTD after it has recently been serviced :(
I drove over some bumps in the road (not potholes, just lumpy tarmac ripples) and heard a scraping sound.. I quickly stopped and looked under the car and could see what looked like a metal, half circle type bracket hanging down from beneath the engine compartment plastic under-tray; I assumed had just unclipped itself at one and and swung open.
On closer inspection (car up on high kerb on one side to allow me to reach the bracket underneath) I realised that it was actually being held by the plastic under-tray shielding but that it was in fact fully loose so I teased it out from the under-tray.
Here's what dropped out?

The number on this part looks to be 500 121 093M but I can't find this online as a VW Golf part.
If anyone can identify this part I would be grateful as I can then be a little more 'armed' when I take this up with the dealership.

No it isn't , we have already explained it is one half of the bracket for the additional water pump...
