Regret to agree.,.,. to quote my mechanic: Cannot be the water pump during the cambelt change , if you having hyrdocarbons in the water it has to be a head gasket for them to get into the water system, plus if the leak was external you would see it on the ground, and not form the exhaust...

Not looking good. Thanks for sharing but I am beginning to wonder if its worth hanging on to mine and I keep bumping into someone with a 1.9tdi still going strong
Re: A4 3.0 Petrol - head gasket? Hydrocarbons found in water tank... :-(
unless of course its got a water cooled egr valve. then it can be something other than a head gasket.

whilst I am up for grabbing at straws I am pretty sure normally aspirated engines such as this one do not posses an EGR,.. esp a euro 3 engine///
Re: A4 3.0 Petrol - head gasket? Hydrocarbons found in water tank... :-(

Re: A4 3.0 Petrol - head gasket? Hydrocarbons found in water tank... :-(
Not as yet, not sure what the point is as all info leads to a head gasket, although it may inform what bank... if not both.. as steam is evident through both exhausts..
