Re: Fitting RCD 300 to RCD 510 in a 2006 Golf GTI using VCDS - Can it be done?
Hi Richard,
Thanks for you previous post. I am working in this aswell and I am at the stage of buying the RCD510. The install car is an EOS 2007.
I have spent the last few weeks looking at the install requirements on forums and I think I need the following,
A New CAN BUS 530 L or newer... I see some on EBay that come "Pre programed" ?
A Connector cable and software (Not sure what I need and where to get it)
Obviously the RCD510 Unit.
Can you point me in the right direction of the cable and software I would need? I see some at £12 and some at £80. Im a bit confused with it all.
The next step i'm looking at the AC upgrade. Another mine field... but I will come back to that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Danny

Danny the " pucka " VCDS cable is made by " Rosstech " and supplied in the UK by " Gendan " and it costs £260. Chinese clones are what you see on internet sites and are not recommended or discussed on most forums as VAG group sponser most of the forums. Rosstech frown upon them also.
The gateway change on an EOS is also necessary and I will look up the location for you if needed.
The antenna cable adapter is also required, plenty on Ebay.
I am sure a fellow Glaswegian is near you with a VCDS Cable and will help for a few beer tokens.
You can PM me with an Email for some help if required.

Hi Richard,
Thank you for your prompt response.
Yes, the cost of this cable would be prohibitive for me. I was looking at this CANBUS Gateway on ebay. This is marked as pre coded. Do you think that means I would not need the VCDS cable? VW CAN Gateway CAN BUS Precoded RNS510 RCD Skoda Columbus Bolero Golf Mk5 Gti | eBay
Im new to this forum today, previously i have just went for it and had some pretty good outcomes with MK5 and MK4 head unit changes. But i knew this would be a little more complex. I will put a shout out to see if anyone has a VCDs cable. If not have you heard of a dealer doing this work with parts supplied?
Im not sure of the Gateway version i have currently. Its a pity as i understand just 6 months later the new type would be compatible. GUTTED!
Cheers for your help :beerchug:

Hi Danny,
As the supplier is asking for pre-contact to supply him the details of your car I would say he is likely to supply you a unit that should be plug and play.
If you could get someone to do you a VCDS scan for a few quid this will tell you what revision is fitted on your car, here is the detail that will show for block 19, the Gateway.
Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 1K0-907-530.lbl
Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 Q HW: 1K0 907 951
Component: J533__Gateway H16 0202
Revision: H16 Serial number: 2700K08A070E94
Coding: ED807F064002020003
Shop #: WSC 00286 210 96954
No fault code found.
You can see it is a revision "Q"
as i said PM me with an emaill addy and I can send you diags ect when you get in about it.
