Re: 3 year service & MOT
I've just received an email from VW to complete a survey on my experience at Stoke Volkswagen. I completed the survey and made a point of telling them all the things that went wrong this service and the drivers seat is still sagging. I clicked them to contact me after this survey has been analysed so we will have to see what comes back.

Re: 3 year service & MOT
Another year on and its due for its yearly service. I went down to my local VW dealer.
Oil filter - 071 115 562 C - £8.58
Air filter - 1K0 129 620 D - £19.56
Pollen filter - 1K0 819 644 B - £12.48
5W/40 Quantum Platinum 5 litre - ZGB 115 QLB 00 521 - £39
I bought a spare sump plug last year. I said this is 5W/40 when the spec should be 5W/30. They said VW have changed the spec depending on the type of service. 10k yearly time/distance use 5W/40. Longlife 20k use 5W/30. I said that's a bit stupid why recommend 40 on the 1 year and 30 on a 2 year service.
I asked again about these sump plugs. Sealing bolt with sealing ring - N908 132 02 - £2.62. VW recommend you change them on every oil change but they have a steel washer on them not copper, aluminium or fibre. Its an aluminium sump so the sump plug isn't going to stretch why do they need to be changed everytime. They didn't know why its just a VW recommendation.

Re: 3 year service & MOT
The plug will seal on it's threads as the soft alloy sump threads will deform to the shape of the steel plug. I've re-used sump plugs for the last 15 years on 3 family cars without a leak.

Re: 3 year service & MOT
There have been many sealing devices used liquid, plastic, soft washer over the years but a normal steel wash has no sealing property. He tells me on the newer engines they have a collapsible washer so they are finally doing the right thing.

Re: 3 year service & MOT
Incidentally when i had my 3 year service as part of the plan I got the 1st MOT free as part of it. I seem to remember this being discussed back then in 2013.
