Re: mpg for a 1.9tdi quattro avant?
Hmm.. I only seem to get about 450 miles to a tank from my 1.9 Quattro, even when doing long journeys (I stick to seventy five)
Is it worth looking at crypton tuning etc to make sure my car is running properly or is that just for Petrols?
I guess it might have been chipped at some point by a previous owner (for more performance) which could be affecting things.
a8 - do you think your EGR mods will alter MPG on your car?
Cheers
Toff.
PS: Whilst the FWD 1.9 is the more frugal option, the Quattro 1.9 is still a frugal beast considering: a. the torgue it deliveres, b. the weight of the car, c. the fact that it's driving four wheels! Hats off to VAG on their achivement, the 1.9 PD engine is brilliant.
Re: mpg for a 1.9tdi quattro avant?
Combined driving I get about 36-38 and a long run at motorway speeds (read into that what you will), I get between 45-48mpg. My car is mapped. I have only seen 50+ on the DIS on a handful of occasions and it never lasts long (a slight incline usually scuppers that!).

egr turned off/down increases consumption slightly, your mpg is average but try a better fuel quality. My first full tank since my holiday to france returned 475 miles with the dis showing 5 miles left
my average comute to work returns 42 mpg over 12 miles ish urban but coming home via m6/east lancs its down to 38 mpg, i think the urban see's me in overrun down hill more than the constant on the motorway hence the urban trip uses less fuel according to the dis
these readings are consistent and its the route i use to test customers mpg complaints
my advise is enjoy the car, after spending 2 weeks driving the new a4 i can confirm mine is so much better its embarrassing to tell the owner my 2004 quattro is not only more comfortable but cheaper to run and more reliable lol
i drive all the models and some say that it must be hard getting back in your car after driving rs this and all the others, my reply is simple.
b6 is my choice for a family of 4 with average income it just does everything i need it for and never do i sit in it and think its time for a new car as there is nothing out there that i can honestly say is as reliable and cheap to run with the looks
i also have a 2,0 pd golf gtdti and that is so much better than the a3, my wife absolutely loves the golf and remember she used my a4 for 12 months and it took some serious work to get her out of my car
we looked at b7 a4 and a3 and even another b6 but the golf won and has settled nicely into our lives
