Any idiot can apply the stuff. Don't be under the illusion that some professional detailer will be working on the car. They'll probably use half a bucket of dirty water, a gritty sponge and a chamois leather for the "preparation" work.

Good advice from the above post. It's little more than a quick wash and polish, and if it's not applied properly, more damage could be done than it's supposed to be protecting against.
My dealer tried to sell me Lifeshine when I bought mine, telling me I'd never need to wax my car again. My response was "why would I want to sacrifice my hobby to line your pockets?"
I can assure you of one thing - when it comes to preparing/cleaning cars at Audi and VW dealerships, there are *no* professionals. Unless you've paid for one to go in there. A lot of them now are contracted in Polish valeting firms. When I got my Passat I had it delivered with the transit wax on, untouched. There was no way I was letting them touch it.
I used p21s (I think its called R222 now??) Or you can just machine it off. The trick is a product that dissolves the wax, and rinsing it with hot water. I had a hot water pressure washer which was handy.
Our supaguard cover means that if there are chips they will fix them for free...?! Not had anything put on the car....
