Re: Best iPhone music streaming package ??
cheers Chris
I had a look and it does look easy, even though you have to remove the glovebox lol!
I would go for this solution if I had an iPod. Reason being is that the cables are in the glovebox so you have to connect the iPod in there.
But as I have an iphone I want to be able to jump in and out without having the need to connect it to the glovebox, cos in my old age (well im young but I have grey hair!!) i would forget at times to open the glove box and remove the iphone each time I left the car.
The other way round this is to add in a cradle on the dash, but then you are into pulling cables through the dash, which I dont want to do saying the car is only a week old lol
Thats the reason why im tempted for the bluetooth option. The AMI route is expensive, but I am selling a detachable tow bar I got with the car on ebay, so hopefully it might help ease the pain in buying one!!
Does the AMI do anything else? As in why would people buy one (apart from the bluetooth music angle which is a new thing)?
Re: Best iPhone music streaming package ??
I have an IPhone 4 and in my car I have the AMI and Phone Prep.
I also have the same issue as you with respect to leaving the phone in the car.
My answer was to simply buy an Ipod classic with a huge capacity and just leaving it in the car all the time.
I then use the iphone with bluetooth only.

cheers josh.
I think I will go for the ami unit. I will try the ipod/iphone cable first but will also give the bluetooth version a bash to see how it is.
Re: Best iPhone music streaming package ??
Hi sitchey, found this this afternoon, seems you can add a bluetooth adapter to the Dension 500 to allow music streaming.

Yea cheers, see that.
It looks similar to the official audi bluetooth streaming kit (see ebay) in that you can only do only thing at a time eg make a call or listen to music. Only differnce is that this is connected to the dension unit rather than the AMI
But I dont mind having to switch to either music or the phone, so last night I went ahead and took the first step and bought an AMI unit with a usb lead!!
I also read that you can use any bluetooth reciever by connectting it to the AMI via the usb lead. So could save me a few bob by not buying the official audi one
But with the probs I had this morning with selecting first gear, I think I could have jumped the gun as the car could be going back if the prob is serious :zx11:
Re: Best iPhone music streaming package ??
I brought the car over to my mechanic and he said that the prob looks like it is that the gearbox is failing!!!!!
Just my bloody luck! A week old car that has a prob that looks like running into £1k to fix!!
Thinking about sending it back so might have a AMI unit going cheap lol
