Re: Audi 80 tdi juddering bucking jerking
Hi All
so thats what i am....a judderer.
I had posted a question on the A6 forum about a vibration at 1600 to 2000 RPM and then came across this thread and it seems i have the same problem on an 1.9 tdi A6.
The uneven idle isnt bad and is tolerable but the judder at about 1600 to 2000 RPM bugs the hell out of me.
i'm really only starting out trying all the things mentioned in this thread and others and still have some hope that maybe one of them will fix my problem.
The only things i've noticed that are in any way different are that turning on anything that draws a bit of power like headlights or heated rear window improves the problem and the problem is definitely less noticeable when the weather is warm.
Originally the fact that it was always there and was there at a specific RPM range had me worried that it was something mechanical in the engine but if it was mechanical the engine would have shredded itself by now.

Hello Redzer
The problem I had with 94 Audi 80 TDIs was more like a
kangarooing effect, as opposed to vibration
It would appear as if ignition was being turned on and off
in rapid succession but you could drive through this and then
car would drive perfect
I pinpointed my problem to electronic drive control unit (actuator)on
fuel pump
Re: Audi 80 tdi juddering bucking jerking
Thanks Micheal
at best it just feels like a slight vibration (it makes the rear view mirror go hazy), its a slight shudder from the engine but at its worst on colder days between 1600 and 2000 RPM it is the kangaroo effect like the pinking you get if timing is off

Hello again Redzer
From your description I dont think yours is the same serious juddering that 94
80s suffer from. then again your elect.observations may point to same
If its any help I recall seeing a post somewhere re slight juddering
it was solved by replacing a faulty injector I think it had poor spray
pattern

Out of curiosity, anyone who has / hasn't tried these wire cutting mods, what mileage are you getting.
I am still 50+ mpg. on 225k miles with no wire cutting. Learned to live with it a while ago now, and can anticipate and avoid juddering before it gets heavy with mild accelerator control (veggy diesel makes the engine smoother)
Re: Audi 80 tdi juddering bucking jerking
i also am a ex judderer the wire trick works wonders i am lucky ive no hunting or rough idle i did try diesel treatment though a while before i wired myself to a judder free ride next mission is to source some tunning tips on my 150k motor :approve:
Re: Audi 80 tdi juddering bucking jerking
Mines a 94 Tdi saloon with around 220k on the clock. It ran perfectly until it started juddering and bucking.
Got the cables and Vagcom, even went to the local Bosch specialist and had my pants pulled down for several hundred quid and "inconclusive".
Went to see a friend who is somewhat of a VW\Audi nut and his first statement was pump. If I remember correctly - injected qty was fluctuating.
Managed to get a 2nd hand pump off a working engine, swapped it over and hey presto runs beautifully. Admittedly wasn't looking forward to the 500 or so to have it reconditioned or replaced.
Hope it helps.

Hy.
Glad you got sorted. 90% of the juddering problems here are not pump related and the wire cutting fix works wonders.:biglaugh:
No probs since doing it and getting my regular 40-50 mpg. So i'm happy.;)
cant get me head around others who will not try this fix and insist spending countless hours and hundreds of pounds on a car worth **** all at the end of the day. But each to his or her own.
CUT THE ******* WIRE:aargh4:

Thanks for information it does help
it confirms pump problem
I suggest you hold on to your old unit as it
can be repaired although very difficult.
Just in case your replacement unit causes problem
Re: Audi 80 tdi juddering bucking jerking
Hi Judders, not been on here for a while, okay, so have we finaly got a solution ?? my juddering is now accompanied by cutting out for a split second. When under load(ie going up a hill), you can feel it come off the boost just b4 cutting out. Just to add, my speedo occaisionally stops working, when this happens my Audi runs perfect, no judder or cut out.
If this wire cutting works, can some one give me the idiots guide to doing it.
Also, if cutting wires works, wouldn't it be a good idea to find out why it works ??
Thanks in advance
Peter
