Piezo Injector Failure, and subsequent detection and repair.

saw this from a guy on another forum ...............


My first injector went in November last year, and the second in January. My car was just out of warranty and had done about 60k.........but Audi replaced each of them as a 'gesture of goodwill'.

That said, I still was not happy, based on the expectation that the final two would also fail.

After a couple of emails, suggesting my car was not save to drive, they agreed to replace the last two - I just had to pay 5% of the value of the parts to ensure a two year warranty.......but this was only about £40.

The replacements are supersession so improved suspect more insulation from engine knock to prevent peizo element failure but don't no for sure

Well thats me back on the road again £833.33 the lighter.
Now i either get rid of this time bomb or dread every journey that i take waiting for the next to fail :confused:
The thing is.......... when this car is injector problem free i love it.

Bad luck Gaz. As a matter of interest, did you have the loom changed first time? Mine has gone into limp mode again today, but started up fine and got me from the other side of Dumfries home to Manchester, albeit ever so slightly down on power and a bit jerky (might just have been paranoid about these last 2 effects) Going for a service tomorrow so will have the codes read. Just wondering if it could be just the loom at fault at the minute.

I don't see why Audi goodwill can depend on whether they have been doing the servicing - if it was serviced every week the injectors would still fail - it's basically a design fault and a safety issue.

I did have a new loom with the first injector replacement but not this time.
Less than 6 month old it would have been under waranty thats why they did not change it this time they would have had to pay ;)

Cheers Gaz. Turns out my problem isn't injector related. Had the fault code read today and it's a boost pressure control problem. Will start a new thread later.

My car has had 4 replaced since january 09, definitely 1 and 2 and probably 4 twice, can't find history off audi. are the new injectors any better than the standard ones fitted to my 56 170bhp A4 quattro. Have no confidence in car any more, only had it 14 months.

Well, 2 months into owning my A4 I had the first injector failure today.

Damn thing just died while on a dual carridge way as I nearly did pushing the car to a place out of the flow of traffic. I was just glad my son wasn't in the back of the car when this happened and it happened today. If it had failed tomorrow the whole family would have been on the motorway in a car with no power.:mad:

RAC guy arrived after a 2 hour wait and disconnected each injector in turn to find the faulty one, no 4 was the culprit. Got towed to an independant garage as I've heard nothing but bad things about the local Audi dealership.

It's now going to cost me £700 to get the car back on the road but who knows for how long...

Has anyone had any luck getting Audi to contribute towards the cost when the car isn't at an Audi dealership? These cars are a potential death trap with this injector problem..
