1998 Sharan TDi front heater/aircon blower fan

I have a 1998 Sharan TDi , 135K, --the other day the fan stopped working-- still displaying that it is, on the climatronic display but no fan for heating, cooling or demisting. Fuse appears OK. Would it be a relay? Hopefully not buried under the fuses like the glow plug relay. Any ideas? Had the vehicle 6 months now, -- air con has never worked but not a problem really , was going to sort it. Also the climatronic display flashes for 10 seconds or more after starting , has done since I've had it but, less, less the lack of aircon, has worked OK. OK at the moment only doing short trips round here ( SW France) with windows open but wouldn't want to do the 400 miles up to the Channel ports without a heater fan . Anybody help?
