Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
Yep, as one geezer commented from second clip there:
"Just buy few meters of 76.1mm x 1.6mm pipe and start puting it together.
I think where-ever you from there are some dude who can help you out with welding and other stuff.
:aargh4::biglaugh:
Sounds nice though...:p
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
Personally I wouldn't remove the cats or whatever. As far as I know, they are needed for the MOT, and despite being able to do all the work myself, I couldn't be bothered.
Apparently diesels aren't tested for emissions, just for smoke, but my argument is that the cats are there for a reason!
You could have the best of both worlds and fit a sports cat which is less restrictive.
However, if it was my car, I wouldn't bother with cats, I'd fit a Jetex stainless steel half system. Like these (you may need to re-enter the car details). I assume the Allroad and A6 Quattro share the same exhaust system?
I've not personally used Jetex products but know of people who have, and they rate them highly.
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
Those oval back boxes look really nice, just might be a bit tight round the cutouts in bumper...
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
I may be wrong as I'm not a diesel driver but I thought that Diesels don't have cats?
Anyhow, for your information, I priced up an exhaust system from the manifolds back. 2 cats, 1 collector box, 2 silencers. From Audi it was over £1600! I laughed! So did the chap on the parts desk! Anyhow, I asked if he sold many and the answer was no. Cheaper to get a stainless system made up.
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
Can only agree, but Jesus! are those just standard oem parts or sports? those prices are ridiculous...
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
Thanks for your replies. I did look at the jetex but thought that the tips looked too big, plus the cost is a bit more. I had my mot today and the tester who owns the garage said it would be ok to remove the cats as diesels are not tested for emmissions only smoke and de catting would not make a difference.
Having said that I am still in 2 minds, so I think the route I will take is to fit a sports cat, and the full stainless system, the price for the lot is still cheaper than the jetex system and in my opinion will not look as boy-racer ish.
Will put pics on when the job is done.
I may even try a video to let you hear the sound( if I can manage that)
Thanks again.
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
The price I was quoted was for the regular system. I don't think they do a sports version?
Ben - if you don't need the cats then bin them - they'll only be a restriction on the outgoing gasses. By taking them out you not only get better power but also more mpg which I know all you diesel nuts love. lol
Re: Allroad Exhaust Upgrade
Removing cats sounds good. How much difference would it make to sound if cats removed? Would it become much louder at front?
