Hi guys need some advice my a4 b8 08 came with standard DRL ( not LED ) i know the full conversion can be done to LED by replacing both units with LED one than using vag com codes for the correct set up. But what i really wont to know can we just take the standard DRL remove the bulbs and add LED ones. Obviously i know they wont look the same as proper LED because of the shape differance on the real LED ones but it would be a one off thats for sure lol
Any ideas :1zhelp:
B.S. warning - this opinion is based on my knowledge of LED's and bulbs as opposed to any Audi knowledge so I could be wrong :)
LED's and standard light bulbs tend to require an entirely different voltage - standard car light bulbs will mostly be using 12v as that's what the battery is. LED's want 5 volts. The sockets (such as they are) will differ too - whilst bulbs blow, LED's last so long that they will probably outlast the car. For this reason, I'd be amazed if you could even pop the individual LED's out but I'd be willing to be put straight on this :)
I was berating myself for not going with the Xenon / LED combo when my car was delivered a couple of weeks ago. Whilst I still prefer the LED's, I'm really warming to the traditional DRL's. When you see them reflected in the back of another car whilst sat in a queue you realise that they actually look rather lovely. They aren't as 'bling' as the LED's but I really like them now. My green eyed monster vs the LED's is starting to view the conventional lights as 'classy' as opposed to 'showy'. I will now duck and cover behind my sour grapes :D
Still would have liked Xenon, though - if I were to upgrade at the front it would be to get the Xenons as opposed to the LED swirl.
How much are you talking to totally replace the headlights with the Xenons with LED swirl and a VAG fiddle to make it work? Must be horendous as it added over a grand at point of purchase so as a retrofit it can't be kind to the wallet can it?
I reckon a full conversion to Xenon from Halogen headlamps depends on what spec your car is. (You need self levelling lights and Headlamp washers before you even start). KUFATEC do a retro fit set for self-levelling and adaptive lights at 389 Euros, then you need the adapter cable and lights.
I have a set of A4 MY 2010 (with breather/vent tube mod) UK Headlights (with adaptive light motors) just requires the bulbs and control modules I would take any reasonable offer on them as they are of no use to me anymore.

LED are better than the standard DRL you know it too? you just need convinceing and a wallet the size of Richard Branson lol lets not settle for second best GARY_Z..... I dont know why Audi did nt put them on all A4 still trying to figure that out :dunno:
Ur right about the voltage issue i ve heard that from a few people was hopig someone had got around to solving that problem bugger... getting the bulbs out could be a tad tricky to.
As for the cost well... all depends on LED ur guess is as good as mine maybe Bratty could enlighten us on that issue :biglaugh: HEX-CAN cable for the VAG.COM thats around £200

If you where to source all parts needed for th D.I.Y at reasonable price well this is whats in store for you next... personally i dont fancy doing this seems like a headache however paying someone else to do it wells thats an aditional cost right..... catch 22

Like I said I have lights at a reasonable price (95 pounds each) which are Bi-Xenon and Adaptive (sorry I can not make it any easier for you to try and enhance your car).:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:.
RETRO FITTING "IS" Obviously more EXPENSIVE. After all to spec an A4 to the same level when ordering "NEW" is always going to be cheaper.
200pounds for a HEX-CAN cable is not actually relevant as you can always use it again:confused:.
You could always go down to B&Q and by a strip of Disco Rope light and glue it inside the housing and use a rectifier to convert the voltage.;)

got sum LED in the pipeline hopefully get them for a steal all goes well... i might be able to do the coversion the cheapest EVER DONE ( not counting my chickens just yet tho ) will keep you posted :D

INBUILT AUDI PROTECTION SYSTEM care to shed some light or do i have to find out the hard way.....
“Just seems that EVERYTHING is controlled by the electrics in an AUDI, just look at the first rear light conversions to LED!
