2006 1.6 FSI SE - Timing Belt or Timing Chain?

I'm a bit confused by some comments that my dealer made to me yesterday when I had my Golf serviced.

The car is a 2006 1.6 FSI (petrol) with 25,000 on the clock. Initially when I booked it in the dealer advised that I should get the tiking belt replaced as VW recommends that his be repleaced every 60k or 4 years (whichever is soonest). I therefore agreeed having heard horror stories about bekts snapping and people having to get new engines etc.

When I called back to see if the car was ready I was told that my car actually had a chain rather than a belt and would therefore not need to be replaced.

Upon picking the car up I was advised (by yet another person) that yes the car had a chain but it should still be replaced at 60k or 4 years and therefore I should consider getting this done next month when the car hits 4 years old.

I am now completely confused. If the car does indeed have a chain then I thought that these were good for approx the lifetime of the vehicle albeit some additonal parts may need to be replaced.

Any advice here folks?

Engines with engine codes BAG, BGP, BGQ, BKG, BLN, BLF, BLG, BLP, BMY, BUB, CAVD, CAWB, CAXA, CBFA, CBTA, CBUA and CCTA are fitted with chain drive, which is maintenance free.

Thanks Martin - is there any way that I can check the code myself?

Should be on a sticker near the spare wheel.
