Ignition problems - Audi 80 1.9TDI
Hi All
Once again I need some advice from those far more knowledgeable than I!
I have a 1995 Audi 80 (AVANT) 1.9TDI that seems to have an intermittant fault on the ignition. I say the ignition because when I put the key in to turn the engine over the glow plug light comes on, goes out I then make a full turn of the key and this is when the problem starts. The instrument cluster lights flash on and off and I hear a noise that sounds like electrical contacts not meeting each other properly.
Five weeks ago I dropped the car in to my local garage and explained the same as above. It was diagnosed with a faulty ignition switch and the switch was replaced. Up until now the fault had gone but it is back and shows no sign of letting up.
After a bit of cursing and turning the key back and forth the car can be made to start but it aint right!
Can anyone make some fault finding suggestions or perhaps diagnose the problem from what I've described.
Many thanks in advance

Hi, I know this reply is rather late probably to solve your problem but it might help others.
My 1994 Audi 80 Tdi with a 1Z engine, recently replaced ignition switch, wipers, fan and indicators worked OK for a little while, very recently problems returned.
Worked out that there are 2 ignition feeds, one off the key and one off a relay in the fuse box. This is called a relief relay and is numbered 213, moved the relay in its holder and the wipers, fan and indicators could be made to work or not work by fiddling around with this relay.
Hope this may help someone.
