allroad tyres.

Has anyone done, or considered putting an all terrain tyre on their allroad. I use mine quite regularly off road and I regularly get stuck and often feel that if I had a more aggressive tyre I would have a better chance. I have considered all the relavancies, the only thing I think that may cause some concern is the speed rating of such a tyre.
From what I have seen on the market it will either be a T or S rating.
If you are aware of this limitation, should it be a concern ?
I currently run on 225/55/17 and have found that I could go to 215/65/16(conti cross contact at) or 215/75/15( B F Goodrich at ).
I am aware that there would be additional road noise levels, handling and cornering limits and they would be purely for winter use.
Can anyone think of anything I have overlooked ?

Keep the rims and go for Yokohama Geolander GO51 all terrain 225 55 17 tyres. They are designed for 4x4 and SUV vehicles with stiff sidewalls. I go to the alps a lot and last summer drove up a goat track from the Tarentaise valley over a 2250 metre high mountain and down into Beaufort with absolutely no problem + drove up to Lac Clou nr val d'Isere in thunderstorm.

The recent snow and ice in this country and in France were a piece of cake. You'll be delighted IF you can get them - they are in big demand at the moment and suppliers are having difficulty getting them. Good luck.

Hi Ben, Can I ask you about your Arnott Gen II air springs. Did you fit these because the originals failed ? I also have an 04 Allroad 2.5tdi, it has only covered 47k from new but I am now starting to get problems with the ride height dropping and it is very very slow to pump back up - sometimes taking several attempts with the pesky yellow light coming on. If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you to get all 4 changed for the Arnotts and have you had any trouble with them ? Also, did the Hotchkis kit make much difference ? HI , without straying too far from the thread :Blush2:I had no problems with the oem bags, I wanted to upgrade the shocks and did the bags at the same time, all done for around £1500 ( import tax was £300) and I've had no problems with the arnotts either. The hotchkis sway bars are the first thing to do as far as handling goes, noticably better.
I have just bought Goodyear wrangler at/r 245/45/18 xl, £110 a corner, quite an aggressive tyre that comes with a fair bit of noise but very good off road traction, just wish I could have a low box too!

HI all, just wanted to update you on the goodyear wrangler at/r 245/45/18. I have done 18000 miles on my first set and they are just coming to the markers, They were swaped around at about 9/10,000 and have worn very evenly, that goes for the outer edges too which are still very good, with previous tyres I've used the outer edges were gone in no time at all. I tend to drive very spiritedly and have found traction very good in wet, dry, snow and offroad. I have got a new set of alloys in the garage with the same tyres on ready for when these actually wear out! I rate them.
