A couple of Q's..
Ok vw nuts.. Im about to pick up a golf 1.6se mk 4 cabriolet with 60k on it in a couple of days. Im new to golfs/VW's in general, so ive just a copule of questions you guys maybe able to answer for me. ;)
1. Should i be expecting to buy a cat exhaust soon?
2. How reliable are the power hoods?
3. Im gonna give it a service as soon as i get it, so what items do i need for a car thats just hit 60k miles?.
4. Is there anything i need to check mechanically wise?.
Thanks for your time/ replies. :D

the catalysts are reliable on your model and should last the life of the car
60k miles service includes cambelt and tensioner (every 4 years or 60k whichever comes first) if havent been replaced yet
also include: oil filter and oil change every(10 000 or 1 year) and pollen filter (every 20k)and possibly air filter if not replaced at 40 000 (every 40 000 or 4 years). spark plugs should have already been changed (every 40k).
water pumps tend to fail with age as a plastic propeller. gud idea to replace them with cambelt at same time as in long term will save costs.
im not sure on the reliability of the power hoods. havent seen many or worked on many going wrong. but dont know if that is cos they dont make many or cos too expenisve to repair at main dealer. i know on the older vehicles with hoods been few cases the hydraulics meant to leak.
rear axle bushes are a common thing to check for mechanical fault. golfs overall are reliable good cars.
to be honest im not too keen on the mark 4 cabs as tey tend to use alot of old fashioned things from the mark 3 golf design with a mixture of the mark 4 golf. but thats just a political view of me feeling there cheating by calling it a mark 4.
